This Just Cannot Be Real...

I don’t doubt the ability of 140 lb guys being able to press 100lb DBs. The act, in and of itself, is not all that impressive. But, like others have said, what struck me was once he was finished with the presses. It all just looked too easy with getting off the bench and walking them over and re-racking. His body didn’t sway and there were no hitches in his re-racking. I’m sorry, but there’s no way a guy with his build can re-rack without any body lean or sway. It’s a matter of physics.

DB

This is driving me crazy.
I even counted the other pairs of dumbbells on the rack. There are 5 pairs before the ones he uses, and 5 more pairs (as I see it) after (a total of 11 pairs). It’s hard to tell what denomination each pair is, but when I looked at Iron Grip’s website, their top weight is 150lbs. Assuming the DBs on the rack are in 10lb increments and in their correct order, that kid is in fact using 100lbs. Descending down the rack would bring the first pair to 50lbs, which does look accurate in physical size when comparing to the pics on the Iron Grip website.

Either this kid is a one-in-a-million gifted lifter, or he’s pulled off the greatest illusion somehow.

What if the weights were re-rack incorrectly?

Logically, it seems that he can’t do this. He whored it around the Internet a few years ago.

The thing is, his story never changed, and most people start to slip up and get numbers and dates wrong.

He doesn’t train anything but bench - no deadlifts or squats.

Here’s his ‘before’ and ‘after’ - I do find it difficult to believe this body lifted these weights.

My vote is for fake.

On the other hand, I have no idea how he would fake them or why.

Agreed. You don’t sit 200lbs on your chest and then sit up with it without your legs flailing wildly when you only weigh 140lbs. In fact, NO ONE finishes a set with that much weight and then rests the shit on their chest. If anything, the goal would be to put the weight on your knees and rock forward. Even that would require much more overall body weight to accomplish.[/quote]

Like it was said above people that don’t understand this, probably haven’t used 100lb DB’s before.

he could be a video editing whiz - today’s technology is quite amazing - i read what he claims is his workout - it don’t make no sense to me - nothing jibes about this boy.

The only thing I can think of, other than fake plates, are that the gym labels the equipment higher than people believe.

I would believe this if he used other, standard weights at another gym.

yeah, a lot of 20 lbs are that size, lol

Bullshit!!! Too easy to return to the rack.

Great technique on the neck and head lift off the bench.

i think its legit.

this guy angles the weights so that the momentum will spring him forward and then the DBs will land on his legs.

the only thing thats hard to understand is how easily he can stand. he has obviously tiny legs and traps so i dont know how hes doing that so easily. theres guys skinny as shit who can tear a phonebook in half, so why is it so hard to believe what this kid has done. theres lots of crazy shit out there that seems fake but is true. im gonna give this kid the benefit.

I agree - he does not act like he is holding a total of 200 pounds in his hands. At all. ESPECIALLY for a 140 lber.

THIS is impressive and actually looks real -

Funny thing about this video, the guy does not drop the weight…just pops up. Heard that was overly complicated and dangerous somewhere…

Um, he stands up and sets them on the ground, probably because of his height. Someone shorter would have to stand to set them down safely…just like he did at the end.

They could be mis-labeled 60lb’ers for all we know.

Oh…humm…well I am on the shorter side…

The stupid plastic covers on those DBs can and do break apart with enough use. A bunch of them are like that at my gym. Swapping the cover of a 50# DB with a 110# DB wouldn’t be too difficult, and the 50 would look legit enough on video to pass as a 110 or 115.

A well thought out and executed forgery IMO.

I’m not defending the kid’s feat, but if you place the cover of the 100# DB onto the 50# DB, wouldn’t there be some empty space inside that would smash or buckle when the kid drops the DBs onto his chest or thighs? Wouldn’t it be apparent in the vid?

Man, I think we’re all obsessing over this. I know I am.
Next time I’m in Hawaii, I’m seeking that kid out for real proof!

The plastic covers fit snug over the metal weight inside, so it’s nothing a little glue couldn’t fix. Personally I’m not obsessing over it, but it is fake and my overactive mind came up with one possible scenario.

Has anyone else ever noticed that these questionable DB vids are always done with DBs that aren’t plate-loaded or the hexagonal cast-iron ones?

You know what, after seeing his pics, who gives a shit if he can press 100lbers?

DB

I’ve been thinking the same thing all along.

I’d prefer to actually be weak as shit, so long as I don’t have to look as pathetic as that kid.
