Elbow Injury

Hello all…
for past some time I am having some problems with elbow. I feel main in my elbow while doing pressing movements, both horizontally and vertically though I have no problem while doing pulling movements.

also I can see no physical signs like swelling or something.

The problem first trigerred some time back when I was doing Skull crushers. but it vanished immediately and as a precaution I stopped doing any triceps extension…

Now I have stopped doing any anything for Chest, shoulders, triceps and no direct work for biceps too. I have not stopped doing deadlifts and chinups also I have no problem doing some o-lifts like clean.

I have been pretty new to lifting weight, I have lifting weights for 6 months out of which first 3 months I spent doing single joint exercises

Thanks in advance for help.

Could be an imbalance somewhere that’s causing stress in the joint. I don’t know what imbalance it’d be since I don’t know how you’ve been lifting, but have you been trying to keep push/pull about equal?

I imagine even the flexor/extensor muscles in your forearm could pull your elbow a certain way if they were imbalanced. Then again it could be a problem way up at your shoulder. That’s the thing with elbow injuries they’re right in the middle of the arm so anything from your wrist to your shoulder can affect your elbows.

Yea…I have been facing some shoulder problem before but I guess its fixed now…
is there any tests from where I can know that the pain is coming from shoulder ? I guess Its not from wrist coz I am having no pain from any grip exercise or deadlift.

is there anything I can do to fix this? at present I am giving it rest and doing some work like squeezing tenis ball, though I am not sure if it help…

sounds like tennis/golfers elbow?
tennis elbow involves pain around the outside of the elbow and golfers elbow involves pain around the inside of the elbow, it similar to tendinitis, inflamed tendons at the joint.

I got golfers elbow just recently from doing pull/chin ups as well as weighted dips, continually over a period of two weeks, my dips went from 15 to 45 reps, and my pull ups went to 30 from 20 with chins going up to 50 from 30, however since the pain kicked in i cant do any pulling or curling movements with my left arm, even changing gear in my car or picking up my son with left arm causes immense shooting pain!

lay off doing any real heavy stuff for a while, i am currenty going to therepy, but i am told it could take up to 12 weeks to sort out!? :frowning: back to the drawing board…get it looked at asap
good luck

i orignally suspected it was golfers elbow but i suspect in that case my pinch grip should be effected, but i suspect that is alright. though I maybe be wrong.

went to physio previous week but didn’t got any satisfying response regarding what that could be and moreover the physiotherapy is not covered under my health insurance so didn’t went for that :frowning:

but I got my hands on a book called “the trigger point therapy workbook” by Clair Davies.

and was able to locate the trigger point it was in “Serratus anterior” tough I am not sure if this is the only one. Have been massaging this for 2 days now and elbow is lot better. haven’t started my normal routine yet. but I guess I would be able to get started at least with moderate loads.

Now I can see how important something like foam roller could be…

p.s: I was unable to find foam roller in sports shop here so I am relying on tennis ball only for my massage !!

I would straight up take at least 1 week off of any type of lifting. It may not be necessary, but definitely worth it, should it be necessary. Whatever is wrong it is most likely some damage to tendons, or less likely ligaments, but either way should do well with some full recovery. This is just what I would do when I have had elbow trouble stemming from dips or skullcrushers.
