I broke the fifth metatarsal in my foot and am curious is anyone has any input on training for the next 4-6 weeks as I heal. I have a boot on my left foot and the doctor tells me I can’t walk for at least a week.
I typically adhere to Cosgrove and Waterbury training – full body workouts, timed rest periods, etc. I’m always trying to shed fat (I’m a FFB big time … from 390 down to 225) and now I’m worried about the next 4-6 weeks that I’ll be in the boot.
Does anyone have any experience and/or advice they can share regarding workouts when you only have one leg available and mobility is severely limited due to my boot and crutches? I want to stay lean and I’m not interested in adding mass.
I was in a cast for multiple breaks, etc. when a 100lb plate was dropped on my foot from a 6 foot height.
I adjusted my crutches so that my tri’s would take all the force of walking, standing, etc. At the end of 8 weeks of this, my raw BP went up 20lbs!
I could not squat, but did as much unilateral work as I could…lunges, 1-leg leg press, 1-leg squats, squats in smith machine etc. When my cast came off, my squat was back to normal after another 5 weeks of squatting twice a week(1 heavy & 1 “light” workout).
Good Luck & speedy recovery!
Thanks very much for the reply. I have already noticed the amount of triceps work these crutches take, and I’ll follow your lead and adjust even further.
Right now (only five days into the break) I’m training one body part per day with two exercises. I think I’ll add some leg work every day since I found my first day on chest – although only 24 minutes – was much harder than I anticipated.
