sadly, thats how i do em. wish i had a camera to show the setup. btw, this is a basement gym with 5 members. our only ‘machines’ are a power rack and glute-ham raise. gotta improvise sometimes.
Last Friday fourth exercise into the workout were dips. Our routine consisted of thirty body weight (227lbs) full ROM followed immediately by adding a forty five pound plate for four reps and then another fory five (90lbs) for two reps. This was followed by flat bench after our tri’s and shoulders were good and fried.
1RM is BW + 115 or so i think. It’s fun to try ad drives my set numbers up. havent done dips in a bit though. Wish I could but ive got not extra weight attachemt at home.

I do them in the rack too using a pair of 6 foot long 2x4s. Oh, and a special way to use bands.
Never relly done my bodyweight for reps, kinda pointless. Recently I have done bodyweight (185) + 215lbs for 4 reps, never done a one rep, wouldn’t want to try, might blow out a shoulder.

Why the hell would you ever do a 1RM weighted dip?

This is exactly what I was thinking.
I can probably knock out 20 or maybe 25 dips, and I’ve done them for 5 reps with a 45 on me.
But why try for a 1 RM? Waaayyyy too much strain on the shoulders…I think someone who tries for one all out effort is asking for a rotator tear. Just my opinion.
