Skinny-Fat Bulk or Cut? Pics Included - Help!

Sounds good to me too. That is 2,520 calories and with good food sources a great place to start.

But I would be quick to adjust upwards based on weight gain / strength increases. Greyskull is a good program, but you really shouldn’t need to deload so often at this stage. If you miss reps, increase food and try to get the same weight at the next session, before you deload.

Okay thanks man!!
Fair enough, but this was in the context of arriving at the tail end of a bulk, i.e. reaching an upper limit in BF %. And for the OP a 495 deadlift at any BW is a long way off.

I don’t claim to know much about steroids or gene expression and I personally would agree that 2g of protein / lb of BW is not necessary.

BUT, the reason I’m daring to talk back to Yogi and dt79 two of my favorite posters is that I do think there’s a kernel of wisdom to what Jaypierce said about eating more protein and calories than earlier advised.
Thanks and I’m very flattered but come on man, there’s no hierachy here, nor should there be(although I admit I would never ever question the words of Bill Roberts). The beauty of an open forum is that people get to share and challenge one another’s views and learn something new from the process.

FTR Yogi thinks the movie Aliens starring that chick with a horse’s face is the 2nd greatest action film ever. Don’t ever listen to his advice again.

Two of my favorite posters because you’re the most consistently funny. You also seem to generally know what you’re talking about, but that’s entirely secondary.

I have to say… Aliens is a pretty fucking good movie…

You meant to type Die Hard, right?
Yeah! Yippee Ki Yay, motherfucker!

Die Hard is great, but when’s the last time you saw Aliens? Seriously good. James Cameron in his prime, right between Terminator and Terminator 2.
Aw come on! You don’t know what you’re talking about!
dt79 wrote:
Oh yes I did!

This is a summary of what I can recall from Aliens despite trying to watch it in full everytime it’s shown on tv.

Chick with a face resembling a horse wakes up from cryo sleep in her undies.

Hey it’s that dude from Mad About You!

Infra red POV shots. Random people shouting.

Bill Paxton yells something about shit coming out from the walls.

Lance Henrickson gets cut in half.

Horseface kills really big alien with a modified forklift.

Hey, what the fuck is Michael Beihn doing here? He was in the movie?

The end.

Alright. I’ll say it.

Aliens sucks! I find it impossible to watch it in it’s entirety without falling asleep. This is why I only remember the first 30mins and the ending!
You do realize that a 637 pull at 198 is an international elite class pull, right? Yes, I realize that there are guys out there pulling way more, but be realistic. To say low 6’s at 205 isn’t advanced is pretty ridiculous.

Ok, so the young man weighs 132. At 132g of protein, 264g of carbs, and 66g of fat, we’re talking about 2178kcal. That’s almost exactly what he’s consuming on his workout days, and it’s not working. He is obviously not carb-tolerant, so what would you suggest next?
Push Protein up to 150, carbs to 300, and fat 80 still not near what you are telling him to but would would be a logical increase. Not a 2000 calorie jump that you suggested.
I didn’t suggest a 2000 calorie jump. Read my first post again. My suggestion was:
2 grams of protein per pound of body weight every day. When you need to convince your body to build structure, there is nothing better than megatons of building blocks.

2 grams per pound of body weight for carbs, as well. We’re talking good, complex carbs here. Rice, potatoes, pasta. Sweet potatoes are especially good.

.5 grams of fat per pound. The only thing to avoid here is trans fats.Â

That’ll put you right at 20 kcal per pound of body weight; 2640 on average. Keep an eye on the scale and make sure you’re gaining one pound per week. Adjust accordingly.
And
drink plenty of water.
You’re suggesting a carb increase for a carb intolerant beginner who doesn’t want to get too fat.

And no, I don’t think your insistence that 600+ lb dl at 205 isn’t advanced has anything to do with “humility”. It’s the result of comparing everything with lifters who are juiced to the gills and geared to the max. So much so that you’ve lost any sense of reality when it comes to natural lifters.

Again; I’m not against steroids, and they’re not out of the question in my future. But to judge everything through that lens is ridiculous.

How do you know he is carb intolerant? He is 136 pounds he doesn’t k ow what the hell be is be needs to eat clean and focusing on 2g of protein per pound is not needed once again. Next I guess you missed the part where I pulled over 500 before gear and I still didn’t consider my self advanced then or now. Once again there are people on this board NATTY as can be pulling close to 600 who don’t consider them selves advanced. I am not confused about any thing. Nor was I reffering to you when I called it humility as some one else called it that a few posts up.

Oh and for the record I used to think I didn’t tolerate carbs either and then I worked with Amit Sapir and found out I just had no fucking clue about hhow to diet for performance and to stay lean.

The question is, can you mentally handle increasing your bodyweight without being able to see much definition for a LONG time without going on endless mini bulk and cut cycles?
I just want to put on mass but I don’t want to get fat. I am not too worried about definition and looking ripped or good on the beach right now.
I am mainly doing it for confidence issues I have and I really just want bigger arms and legs and smaller boobs!
My very, very long term goal is to be around 150-155lb and 10-12% bodyfat.

I already cut from 145lb to 130lb when I was fatter earlier in the year. I felt awful in terms of how I looked which forced me to register on here and seek for help as I didn’t want to lose any more weight but I was still carrying some excess fat (I can grab a handful of it on my mid section) and wasn’t sure what to do.
dt79 wrote:
but then again, it could be a good thing since he will be forced to cut out a lot of crap that’s usually high in carbs from his diet to meet his macros.
For the record, all my carb sources right now and for the past several months have been sweet potatoes, vegetables, oats, 1-2 portions of fruit daily, dextrose powder post-workout, and nothing else so I think I am a pretty clean eater and there is no junk in my diet whatsoever.
Reed wrote:

Sounds good.
Start there man track weight for a week or two if see no positive increases up from there about 10g of protein, 10-20g of carbs and 5g of fat or so. I personally would push the carbs. Small increases till you begin to see what you want. Excess protein will make you just as fat as excess carbs or fat.

Not to mention will save you alot of money week to week.

He’s skinny fat.

Nice went real scientific with that answer huh. You sre being sarcastic right? Like that cant be a real answer… If that is seriously the only evidence you have to support your claim that he has an “intolerance” to carbs you really need to take a step back rethink what you think you know about nutrition and carbohydrates.

Lol. Maybe you should take your own advice. Skinny fat people are almost always carb intolerant.

Sorry if that’s not scientific enough for you. I can run him through the entire questionnaire if you’d like.

ok, so maybe I did jump on Jaypierce a little bit, and for that I apologise. HOWEVER bulking up to 236lbs and only having a 285 bench is really quite terrible, and is pretty strong evidence that someone has gotten way fatter than they should have done. We’re all guilty of having overbulked in the past, but advising a beginner who clearly has body confidence issues around the amount of fat he’s carrying to do so is really quite insensitive.

The dude isn’t “carb intolerant” or whatever you want to call it, he’s just a beginner who hasn’t got his diet sorted yet.

And craze, mate, dare to talk back to me anytime! That’s how a forum should be, but I’ll tell you right now that dt79 is a COCK and Aliens is better than Die Hard 3 by a million light years!

Get away from her you bitch!

and Reed’ diet is right on the money, IMO

Dude you are beyond full of shit at this point. Believe what you want but, you can not make that call on that one very generalized assumption. Being skinny fat does not make you carb intolerant… If you can’t see the falacy here in your statement then I feel bad for you and the rest of the beginners who won’t know any better and will follow you blindly just because. I am done here as the OP has the 2 sides and now will have to make his own decision.

Reed, you are one of the most badass motherfuckers I’ve ever come across with the knowledge and results to back up what he says. Why would I call you a retard?

Unless, of course, one day Emma Stone comes between us…

Hahahahaha I just wanted to clarify didn’t sleep much last night so didn’t wanna search through the thread lol.

Lol. I recommend 2650 calories in a 40-40-20 macro ratio + plenty of water to a skinny fat beginner who’s having trouble putting weight both on his frame and on the bar.

Get called a retard for it as if this diet plan hasn’t been used successfully by millions of people.

And then the main guy arguing with me can’t figure out if he’s being called the retard, simply because of the same reason he started arguing with me in the first place; he’s too lazy to actually read the thread and figure out what’s going on.

And just judging by the way you two seem to be enamored with each other, my guess would be that if Emma Stone were to actually come between you, you’d probably push her out of the way.
