I’d watch the “so you think you can bench” series on you tube and check out STB’s blog. I believe he did an excellent segment on benching properly.

Apart from stupid feet positioning killing leg drive (as Stormy Beaches said in his video segment) what else am I missing?

Man I am no bench expert, but you let that particular rep get too far forward (toward your feet) and that’s why you couldn’t finish the rep.

I used to think I wasn’t built for benching at all. Now I’m closing in on a 405 bench, just from being honest with myself and working smarter.

Pat mendes increased his bench from 450 to 500+ in 2 years and didnt bench press for 2 years. I thought that was pretty cool.

I agree, bench press sucks. If you don’t like it, then don’t do it unless you are training for a meet.

And for the “blah blah this is the powerlifting forum!!! blah blah” crowd…believe it or not, but not everyone who likes powerlifting competes, so you don’t have to stick to the competition lifts. Shocking, I know.:slight_smile:
