Screw the Bench Press

 1. develop a HUGE arch
 2. ROM = 10"
 3. ???
 4. profit

lol.

My bench sucks (~105kg @ 87~) but forcing myself to adopt a PL bench style (as unnatural as it felt) is gradually saving my shoulders and finally bench is starting to make sense a little more. But then I’m 5ft 10". I would definitely go with the max legal width grip at that height and definitely watch so you think you can bench on EFS… if your not trying to bench like in that video then you are definitely selling yourself short because of the huge ROM difference when compared to a BB style bench.

Its fucking stupid
Lol it’s not stupid just because you are a very large individual regardless of strength and can push people who are smaller than you around while still being a poor presser.

These posts sound like a little kid who gets a toy taken away by mommy and daddy then starts screaming about how he didn’t want to play with it anyway. Just sayin… you could bring a better attitude to the lift if it’s a weakness.

EDIT: Also, I agree that setup is HUGE. Separates the strong mofos from the bro-strong just tryin 2 tone guys.

Sounds like you have a great mentality to improve on the things youre not good at…

You having long arms just means your triceps have the ability to get that much more massive.
I wish that were always true. You could just wind up with massive delts.

Wow… this thread fucking sucks

if you push people around in the field and are good at your sport why is it so important for your to bench much ? , dont get to caught up in bench strength for sports deadlifts and squats have more carryover.
You mean having bigger chesticles DOESN’T help??? BLASPHEMY!

When did a 140-160kg bench become something to brag about?

This guy is like the Dwight Howard of powerlifting and BP is his offense. Really big, good at what he does because he is big but thinks because he is big he doesn’t need to sink to the level of training his bench (working on his offense).
That being said I am 6’5 and do full rom bench and atg squats (they feel better, i know, weird) and there is a disadvantage but man up!

I’d be a very happy man if I suddenly had a 160 kg bench haha.

Bench is also my weakest lift. Due to shoulder problems and just sucking at benching. But I’m only 18 and have a very long time ahead of me to make it better. Still not many people with a 465 squat and 500+ deadlift only have like a 270 bench.

I just hate hearing the “Mow much ya bench, bro?” question haha.

It’s just not that strong bro

Your training should be built around what helps you improve individually, not by randomly comparing specific stats. You may be able to handle guys that out bench you, BUT that in no way mean that if you worked on your bench, it wouldn?t improve your performance. There are a lot of factors that go into performance on the field. It may be that you are really good in some other area and that compensates for your crappy upper body strength.

But you’ve already admitted you don’t care about any of it, so go ahead and be satisfied where you already are. That’s the real key to mediocrity.

Tbh, if I suddenly had a 160kg bench I’d be pretty pleased too.

@spar4tee, have you gotten that 400lb bench yet?

Not officially … I’ll try 400+ soon

My best competition lifts are a 456 squat, 507 deadlift…and a 264 bench. I did hit a 280 bench back in December, though, and a 305 two-board. We’ll see what I get at my meet next Saturday.
