on a side note, we’ve moved back into the old training room (the university was being decorated) and I had to train for 1hr 45mins with just me in the room and no music or anything. Very depressing!

That’s how my team trains all the time.

There should not be music or mirrors during training sessions since there are no mirrors or music during meets.

On a side note. Front Squatted 122.5kg for 4 reps for 2 sets. Rep PR.

That means we should all be wearing our lifting suits too, surely? I’m sure very few people train in them - let’s face it they’re not exactly sexy are they?!!

Having no mirrors I’m fine with, but I find that I can focus out music pretty easily when I’m getting ready for a lift so I don’t see it as an issue, plus I was on my own in the room so didn’t even have anything to look at during the rest periods. I’ve trained like this for the best part of 12-months at one point and it’s pretty depressing to be honest.

most people I train with train in their singlets. I train in a straps down singlet most of the time, and when PR’s in the snatch or clean and jerk come up, I strap up.

Here’s the result so far of a project I’ve been working on this summer. The lift is not particularly good, and the lifter is never going to win any beauty contests, but the overlays on the video might be of interest.

I don’t practice the lifts… but that is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. How did you gather the data for those graphs?[/quote]

Thanks. The data gathering is part of the software that I’m writing. For each frame of the video, place an ellipse over the plate at the end of the bar, then record its position.

Tom, there’s a very expensive piece of software called dartfish that does similar stuff. I’m sure a man with your resources can figure out how to get a hold of it…

I just watched some dartfish demo vids… very cool. Completely excessive for my “needs”, though. I would love to put overlays on a vid of my squat, for example. Not that it would do much good as far as my lifting, but I would still like to see it.

But, I can read between the lines, you are suggesting I train an army of ninajs to raid the OTC and steal a copy.

I’m really surprised at that tbh. If anyone at either of the clubs I’ve trained at turned up and was wearing their suit I’d think wtf and I can pretty much guarantee that the rest of the guys who I’ve trained with would think the same. Nothing against it, but it’s just not usual where I train…anyway different strokes for different folks I suppose.

power snatch - 80 3x2 - felt pretty good apart from a couple which I pulled back on plus another that I completely cocked up

clean & jerk - 110 x1
- 120 x1
- 125 x1
- 130 x1
- 135 x 0+0 - really annoyed cos the cleans felt really good just couldn’t get the jerk

clean pull - 135 2x3 - advised to stop them cos they were shit!
a few hang clean 90x3 110x2x2 - felt easy I just need to do them a bit more regularly and work on my positions

Back Squat - 160 3x5
Shoulder Press - 70 2x6

Weird workout today

Made 82.5kg Snatch for 4 singles out of 5
Made 85 kg Snatch for a single
Made 87.5 kg Snatch for a single
Made 90 kg (my old pr) Snatch for a single
Missed 92.5kg 3 times

Seems like I’m getting really comfortable with throwing around bigger weights, I predict a 5kg jump in my Snatch next week.

Jerks and Squats were garbage. I was failing at 85% for both. But I looked back on my log and realized I have made PRs 5 days in a row, including a clean dead PR. My body is still getting used to the new training loads apparently.

yeah, its normal at my club pretty much. There are a few who don’t train in the singlet, but most of us at least wear it under clothing.

I like how you get to do clean dead pull PR lifts. How often is that? It’s so deliciously chinese/korean.

It works for Jang miran

Training at the Univ Gym

Front Squats… up to 120kg (max)
-I tried to hit 125kg… but I could not do it :frowning: I’ll give it a couple of weeks.

c.o.r.e work hanging from the pullup bar.
Windshield Wipers:
-1st set 12-15 wipes (lost count)
-2nd set 10
-3rd set 8
-4th set 6

Leg raises:
1set, 5reps,

Leg raises (bent leg) to the side:
1set, 8reps

Stretch and GO HOME!

Training in Bmore with Dr. Manhattan, and another guy

High-Hang clean Pull+Pull+SquatClean+Jerk:
-Starting out Dr. Manhattan told me just shrug the bar, no hip movement. After a few regural shrugs, then he told me to go down abit a big shrug. It took me a few reps to get a good solid shrug with NO arms.

-up to 70kg… I stopped here because it was getting hard to keep the correct position and good form.

Hang clean Pull+SquatClean+Jerk off blocks.
-from 70kg up to 80kgx2

RDLs:
-I left my ego at the door and dropped the weight DOWN.
-I started at 60kg, and went up only to 90kg

–now… I think I just found out a key issue that is making my 2nd pull technique shitty…
It is weakness in the area where the hamstring and glute muscles overlap.
At the top of the RDL (shoulders over the bar, bar close to the body, knees almost straight) I am shaking. I can feel both the top of my hamstrings and bottom part of the glutes shaking. Even with 60kg!

Snatched 70kg and clean and jerked 90kg for triples today…nice rep PRs. More rep work to come next week, then deload, then testing.

Haha, to be honest I really have no idea how often. I’m on some 20 week cycle to peak for BC Provincials and it seems like we’re deadlifting twice a week since we started.

At our club, basically if the athlete feels like its PR time, then we go after it, there really aren’t set dates, but my coach has certain weeks where he predicts athletes will make PRs and 9/10 times he’s right. 50 years of coaching experience allows you to prophesize PRs I guess.

It works for me cause I’m Chinese. BAZING!

Heeeeeyyyy Ooooooooo! he’s here all week folks!

Yeah esp after he has been programming you for a while it’s likely no problem figuring when you’re primed for preformance.

I like the idea of actually Clean pulling for 1RM PR’s. After seeing what the chinese accomplished by going against the grain I dont mind checking it out myself.

Well dude, if you’re ever on the otherside of the rockies, you’re always welcome at my Club.

My coach is thinking about attending a meet in Alberta in the near future. You Albertans are pretty supportive of BC meets and my coach wants to return the favor

Yeah dude let me know if you all make it out. Ill show you around the better half of alberta [calgary. Forced to say so to maintain a age-old rivalry with edmonton] and where the best food is at.

I’d love to go and scope the coast as its sounds so nice there. As of now though I predict that my job will keep me pinned down for a bit. gotta make it through the recession and all. All the comps are out your side anyhow so im sure ill at least make it for a meet sometime early next year.

Power snatch 72 and 74kg tonight…not the prettiest, as max power snatches are wont to be, but it went up and stayed up.

Power clean 95kg, FS 107x2x3.

P.S. Enough with the Canadian circle-jerk, you two.

Day 7.1

feet finally healed AND I was able to make it in during hours.

Hypers
3 sets of 6

PowerSnatch from Hang Above Knee
40x4
45x4
52x4
60x1+0,0+0,0+1,1+0 epic fail, some of the misses I rode down and bar was out of place.

Snatch (from floor)
60x0,0,1,0,1 working on first pull with bringing the bar in.

PowerClean from Hang above Knee
40x3
50x3
60x3
70x2x4

Clean and Jerks
60x2+2
70x2+1
80x2+1
90x1+1,1+1,1+0 (first one sat in bottom a bit longer then normal, jerk was pressed out, 2nd was rough, feet turned out to much but jerk was perfect, and clean on 3rd one was same as 1st.)

Back Squats
70x4
90x4
105x5x2

then I got kicked out of the gym as it was closing.

Good to be back in the gym, last few days have SUCKED. 90 felt light, jerks were meh, wrist was kinda bothering me, but worked through it.

7/27/09

Training in Bmore with dfreeze and a few other people

High Hang snatch Pull+Pull+SquatSnatch
-up to 60kg

dfreeze told me to keep the arms locked when doing the pulls.

Pull+Pull+Squat Snatch off blocks
-65kg x3

Snath Pulls (off the floor)
-up to 75kg

All the time focusing on making that Jump UP, not back. Also making sure I was well flatfooted, hip/glute muscles ready to jump.

RDLs:
70kg 3reps,
75kg 3reps,
65kg 4reps,
70kg 3reps,
80kg 3reps x2
60kg 5reps 10 second hold on the last rep near the top of the movement,

–dfreeze was like, “Yeah you are clearly shacking. You should also do splitlegs and step ups”

Stretch and… do some Overhead Squat PRESSES!!!
-hollyshit, I did not know I could actually put weight on the bar, I did 3 presses with 50kg!

NEVER! But you’re always welcome to join in.

27/07/09

snatch - 85 4x2
felt heavy but I caught them well and the pull under felt fast.

jerk from rack - 95 3x2
don’t really like jerking from the rack but I was wanting to concentrate on recovering from the split position. I’ve got a tendency to bring my legs together really quickly instead of focusing on setting myself after pushing myself under on the jerk

front squat - 150 4x2
felt pretty light

snatch pull - 100 4x2
worked on a slow first pull to keep my positions hen exploding on the 2nd pull and concentrating on not pulling with my arms - videod a few of them and they looked ok (from my point of view)

first training at 9.30pm - went home and ate then sat on the settee with my legs throbbing! Happy days. My wrist problem seems to have cleared up after a few snatch freee sessions as well, thank God.
