Lots of front squats today lol. Idea was to work up to a max, then do two doubles with 10-15kg less (25-35lbs), and do that 3-4 times. I only had time for 3 rounds, which was plenty since I was dead afterwards. Really happy to hit that PR, with takes my front squat to 116kg.
I just started experimenting with pulls a few weeks ago, and I was wondering if you guys had any tips for me. Here’s a video of me doing some clean pulls. The first lift is a clean with 130. The next 2 are clean pull doubles with 140.
Do they look alright to you guys? Am I using too much weight and not pulling the bar high enough? Does my form get too thrown off? Do you think they’ll help out my lifts doing them this way or do you guys have any changes you would recommend? Thanks guys.

At first glance they look fine to me, though you jumped forward on that 130 clean. I might take a closer look later but the form seemed pretty consistent. How high you’re going to be pulling the bar will be a function of whether you’re using the pulls to train speed or strength. Personally I lean more towards using them for strength, as I find doing pulls can help with having confidence at maximal weights when you’ve got the bar in your hands. The bar feeling heavy when it comes off the floor can be a real bitch.
Front Squat
50 5/5
70 3
80 2
90 1
100 x [didn’t even try to stand]
Not my best session, but I’m happy that I am getting more consistent snatching bodyweight (70). My right knee was really bugging me today so I didn’t jerk at all. The pain limited me for sure (mentally if nothing else). No doubt it’s just from front squatting so much yesterday when I’m not used to that.

Looks okay but like Jonty has mention it all depends on what you want from the pull? To work the 1st pull and use to pulling a heavy weight off the floor without breaking your position? Or working the 2nd pull more and getting good bar speed?
I prefer the speed stuff to get to at least sternum. If not it is too heavy for speed work.
Heavy stuff, just to maintain position off the floor to about mid thigh.
Going to try a different method. Going to single to a heavy single and then do 2 doubles. Triples just feel crazy heavy at my lower bodyweight.

115x coach says I’m failing too much. I’ve only failed 115 twice FFS…it really really f0cks me off when the coach tells me I’m failing too much. IT REALLY F0CKS ME OFF…I told him I’lm not leaving the gym until I get it…I haven’t done any full Sn in about 6 weeks and this is the 2nd time I have full Sn since I stopped doing any over head work

My thought was to use them with a heavy weight as a way to overload/strengthen the 2nd pull. I don’t have any issues with the 1st pull really, other than I sometimes get lazy and let my hips shoot up.
These are incorrectly labelled. I believe the proper terminology is “Soviet Elbow Bends”[/quote]
I’m off on holiday in 4 weeks, so doing them a bit and FS is just f0cking depressing when I’ve dropped 15-20kg on most days on my 3reps
I did 20kg x 10reps on Friday but had to use the 18 and 16s as my arms have such poor endurance LOL. They were still feeling sore up until 2 days ago LOL.

It’s too heavy for the 2nd pull imo. You need to pull the bar more, more hips, legs and pull the dam thing at the top. I prefer to do my pulls Chinese style and get a rebend at the top as if you were going to go under it.
I’d go a bit lighter and say use 130 and pull that bandit STRONG AND POWERFUL for the 2nd pull. Really get it shifting and then up the weight a bit. No use pulling huge amounts if the bar isn’t moving anywhere, but granted there is a time and a place for that also. But again, it just depends on what you want from it.

I agree with this. Doesnt look like youre hitting high enough or accelerating fast enough at the top. Lower the weight so you can lengthen the pull and train acceleration.

That was actually the biggest difference that I could feel when I was doing them. I didn’t feel like I could really sweep the bar up as much, and so I was making contact a bit lower than usual. Alright thanks guys. I’ll drop 10kg and see how that goes.

Reminded how much I don’t miss benching… In my younger days I benched 120 for 1 and 90 for 12 (80kg bodyweight). Oh how I wish that training had been aimed elsewhere.
Again… Sticking to the plan!
Did a lot of bar work and a few light overhead squats with a jerk grip and left.
Not long now till i’m back in a proper gym and can start training properly again. For the time being just trying to hit volume squats and a fair bit of pulls and pressing
Still training, had 2 turd months. But back on it towards the open comps at the end of the year. Need 110/130 for the English, hit both of those first time today. The 170x5 was 2nd session of the day, form on the last two was pretty turd.
