I just feel that PL is much more forgiving to athletes who didn’t start training until their late teens or early 20’s. Plus, supposedly you can reach peak limit strength levels in your 40’s, whereas explosive strength tends to drop off when you reach your 30’s, which gives me more time. Also, my squat/DL seem to have no limit to how high they can go and my bests are currently within shouting distance of the APA American Records, which I have now decided to chase.

I’m sure you’ll be a great powerlifter! But in my humble opinion, it’s kind of a bummer that you put “being great” over enjoying the sport itself. After all, you have made some awesome progress in the snatch and the cj.

I appreciate the kind words, man. And yeah, I have made decent progress in the Olifts, but I just feel that my ceiling in the powerlifts is much higher. And while I may not enjoy benching as much as the Sn/CJ, I do enjoy squatting/deadlifting a whole lot, and I want to become really good at something.

I think it’s kind of cool. Part of the enjoyment of a sport is the feeling you could be good at it.

121112
Back Squat 3 reps under 5s
made up to 84, couldn’t get 90 fast enough
this was less than an hour after getting back from vacation, which was 9 days of no lifting.

121113
Snatch to 70, singles at 60
Clean and jerk to 95, volume at 80 (2 cleans + 1 jerk)
Back squat 3 reps under 5s only made it to 80, couldn’t make 85 today.

121115
session 1 630am-830am
snatch to 75, close misses at 80
cj to 95, bad miss at 100 that spooked me from trying again
back squat singles under 2s, made up to 95

session 2 1230pm-115pm
back squat triples under 5s - made 89 in 4.99s
back squat singles under 2s - 93 @1.6s, 98 @2.11s

session 3 730pm-8pm
back squat triples under 5s - made 84 in 3.7s, 93 was too slow at 5.3s

lots of squatting today. tomorrow’s lifts should be interesting. as a side note, squatting fast rather than heavy has made me feel faster standing up with cleans, but they feel heavier off the floor.

I feel bad always following myself with these posts, but I have to share this one. Made a 2.5kg PR snatch today (and yes, I know that I yell a lot. It isn’t intentional).

101/126 @88kg, all competition PRs and an all time CJ PR.

You never accelerate the bar during your 2nd pull before the finish… Tempo before speed man, your temp is definitely off. The bar should start accelerating once it is past your knees, you are pulling too slow IMO and it is holding back your finish.

A better look at 126 cj

I understand where you’re coming from, but you can’t tell intent from video.

NIce work with all those PRs!

Yeah, that is true, I guess that is just how it looks to me. Overall though, I think speed off the ground has way more importance than people on the internet seem to think. More momentum going into the finish never hurts. You’re hitting your positions good so I think it would benefit you to try speeding things up a bit from the top down, not at the expense of position of course.

and thanks!

After the PR snatch saturday, I went 80/100 this morning. It looks like I’m starting to dial in above 75 more often, which is great.

Best of luck for tomo, jonty. Hope you lift well and feel sharp.

I actually pulled out of my comp haha. Started working a construction job a couple weeks back and it’s played hell with my schedule and recovery, and my knee has been feeling wonky over the last week or two so I decided to hell with it. Gear up for the next one.

Best of luck to you though.

week of training:
121119 snatch 80, CJ 100, FS 100
121120 FS 111
121121 snatch 80, CJ 95, FS 100, PM session FS 106
121122 FS 111
121123 FS 113.5
121124 FS 113.5

lots of front squats lately.

So jonty as per the bet you have to post naked pics on women’s health…
So comp day I got 110/115x/115 130/140/145x

Pretty happy really, got a 10kg pb back squat on Wed 200kg, and trained thurs and Fri. No had a day off for 3months pretty much. Maxed my squat every day.

Qualified for English champs, and was 5kg off the British. With a taper I feel good for a 270 total. Will hopefully get some vids soon

121125 training
morning session
Snatch to 80, missed 86 behind
Clean and jerk to 102.5, took an attempt at 110 but chickened out
Front Squat 110, missed 120 (all misses in the AM were PR attempts)

Evening Session
Snatch to 80, 6 misses at 87.5
Clean and jerk to 105
Clean 110 for a PR but missed the jerk

121126 Front squat to 106 [5 days from comp]
121127 Snatch 75, CJ 95, Front Squat 100 [4 days out]
121128 Front Squat to 120 (+2kg PR) [3days out]
121129 Snatch to 70, CJ to 90, FS 100 [2 days out]
121130 Front Squat 100 [1 day out]

121201 Competition Day
Snatch
70 x
70
75 [+15kg competition PR]

Clean and Jerk
90
100 x jerk
100 [+5kg competition PR]

Total 175 @ 70.2 [+20kg competition total]

Evening session - Front squat to 113.5

Overall I’m pretty happy that I’ve put up those numbers in competition now, since I’ve been hitting them frequently in training.

Keep training, because I need to total 200 in February. My best training total to date is 190, so I don’t think that’s too unreasonable. I’ve had a good number of close misses at snatching 87 lately, and I’ve cleaned 110 but missed the jerk. I’ll need to put up 90/110 in February (or thereabouts)
