Sorry, I’m still not wowed. A kid I go to college with is a 6’6’’ baller and he benches around 315. And he is no professional. To the question that most professional athletes can’t bench 350+ look at football players- practically every lineman that plays out of high school, hockey players-most of the guys at my college on the hockey team can bench at least 275, wrestlers, MMA guys.
The average High School kid can hit 315 with a couple years training. With a professional strength coach and ahem certain supplements that you inject into your glute you guys really think that these guys can’t bench that much. I’m not buying it.
Wow. Yea, the “Average” high school football player benches 315, hahah. By the looks of your pics, it seems like your body would crush under 315. I guess 315 is considered average now for everyone.
It didnt look too legit. When im squatting sets of 315+ that bar begin to bow a little bit, and its a thick ass bar at that. The bar being used there was skinny as shit. Also, Im not sure if someone touched on this earlier in the thread but think about the setting of the vid. There is no sweating, they are the only 2 in the gym, hes in full basketball uniform and you see mad cameras flashing on him. This was more of a publicity ploy as oppose to demonstrating shit
Howard weighs 260-270lbs. Other NBA players speak of his freakish strength (on the court).
The lifts are legit. it’s not like he’s repping twice his bodyweight.
He makes it look “effortless” because he is nothing but fast-twitch muscle. He has very strong hands too. You see his sticking point is the lockout. Dude is strong and explosive.

The NBA pre-draft combine results are out:
They use 185 pounds for the bench press. A couple of the guys only did 2 reps. The highest was 26.
Did anyone see the bodyfat measurements? I saw a whole lot of 4s and 3s in there. Something isn’t right. 3.0% BF?
I don’t find that hard to believe. These are young atheletes with high activity levels. Many of them are rail thin to begin with and are probably undereating as well.
None of those guys are 3 and 4%. When body fat gets that low, performance gets severely impacted. The tests done there are bogus.
the women is squatting 330lb(150 kg) x 5 reps without any supportive equippment…
and easly …how can this be possible? fake plates? what’s your opinion Doug Adams?
Did you bring up a 2 year old thread by posting a video of a female powerlifter squatting to somehow prove/disprove a professional basketball player’s bench press numbers?

I’d be willing to bet a lot of professional athletes can bench 380-400.
Alot of pros who are 7ft tall with a 7&1/2 foot wingspan? I’d be willing to bet you’re wrong.
I’d be willing to bet with real little training he’s right. Weight proves to be more of a deciding fact then length when it comes to lifting, and a 7 footer is naturally heavier. The only reason I would think most 7 footers in the nba can’t bench that much is because they don’t worry about that, or they are still under 240.
sorry johnnytang24, but i find this curious video of this women squating that amount of weight (330lb) for 5 repes and withowt any supportive equippment… icredible don´t you think?

I think it’s great lifting – excellent depth, super strong. Is she a powerlifter?

I don’t think 315 is average for a high school athlete, but it is not uncommon. Not calling you out, but there are people on this site, most of whom can only bench 315, who get upset when it is mentioned that such a lift is fairly common. I mentioned it in the 405 bench thread, and said I had seen massive numbers of guy’s putting up 315 and loads doing 405 at a state HS weightlifting competition. It was viewed as an unreliable source, the only source good to these guys was the poster themself. Apparently, videos were not enough either.
Back to Dwight, he is very tall. That lift is even more impressive considering that. I doubt he is going to go all out when there is that much money on the line.
^^you’re not really calling him out cause this thread is over 2 years old lol.
Aaaaaaaanyway, could howard bench 365? Sure why not? He’s a professional athlete with amazing genetics/athleticism and world class coaches/trainers. 365 isnt really that much for bench and definitely not TOO much for a professional athlete to lift. The only thing making it seem not like 365 is how easy he made it look while putting it up.
