Do You Take Supplements?

If so, what are they? I’m not too sure what supplements I should take as a powerlifter.

definitely some type of mass gainer depending on what your goals are regarding weight classes. creatine, omega-3s and idk about anything else, thats just what i take

I usually have some sort of stimulant drink pre-workout, anything with 300-400 mg caffeine and no sugar. Sometimes I just slam 3 or 4 shots of espresso. During workouts I drink Surge and creatine monohydrate, and I sometimes use protein powder to make shakes. Mostly I just eat actual food post-workout though. Oh, and some type of superfood supplement. Not a big believer in most supps. Food is the key.

fish oil with the most cost efficient EPA&DHA amounts, gucosamine chondroitin with MSM, multivitamin, and I cycle creatine every now and then. Plus a protein shake made with the finest cambodian breastmilk available.

Mine generally fall into 1 of 3 groups:

1 - meal replacement: protein powder/bars
2 - training recovery: Surge
3 - joint health: Flameout etc…

Don’t think about it as taking supplements. Take a look at your training/lifestyle. Is there something there that you’re missing that you can more easily address with supplements than otherwise.

For example, protein powder is a lot easier than eating mid morning in the office. Or, I can minimize knee pain by either icing my knees after training and using hot packs a couple times a day or I can just take Flameout and Curcumin daily.

Pretty much all I take right now is a whey shake, waxy maize, leucine with every meal and fusion shut-eye to help me get to sleep. Never really responded to creatine, but your results may vary

I’d say first thing is to make sure your getting enough protein in your diet with food or food and protein drink. For powerlifting I’d recommend 1.5-2.0 gram/lb. of body-weight per day. After that a good multi-vitamin, fish oil, and creatine. After that it is a matter of money and goals. Try something for a while and see if it helps. Read all the great articles here on Tnation. Good Luck.

i tend to have times that i take virtually nothing (whey & fish oil only) and then times where i feel like i’m taking almost too many.

but when i break it down and figure why i’m taking each, it makes sense. but i’m probably just justifying it haha.

oh well.

RedBalls.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Multi-vitamins, fish oil, zinc (from time to time), creatine, and coffee before workouts.

Food works pretty good too. I read that in a study.

whey after training. aminos throughout the day. been that way the last 4 years, and am still gaining just as much as when I took everything under the sun.

Whey
krill oil
jack3d
CEE
casein hydrolysate-(made a HUUUGE difference in recovery)
zinc, selenium, multi
greens supp
digestive enzymes
Spike

Multivitamin, but I’ve been taking those since a kid so don’t count as workout supplement
Flax oil
Creatine, haven’t for several months but might start again
Protein Powder, morning/post work/pre bed, count this more as food though
Occasionally take cytomax mid workout but now mostly use gatorade

Pussy.

protein powder-for pw shake and drinking shakes throughout the day

creatine-improve recovery

tribulus-aggression and stamina while I work out

dhea-improves recovery, but only when taken with tribulus

Mg+Zn-CNS recovery maybe…? Mostly to help me go to sleep, my mind gets wired after workouts.

fish oil-heart, mood, joints

glucosamine-joints

digestive enzymes-for food stuffing

squats and milk-stronger squat

Used to take creatine when I was a vegetarian, can’t say I ever felt that it made a difference. Now I’m a carnivore again and I just eat normal food. I’m still progressing just as well even though I’m taking no supplements at all. I do munch on the odd monkey testicle now and then, but that’s enough about my sex life!

I take 3grams of tribulus a day, up to 9 grams of fish oil, zma and no plasmacore before I train. I prefer food than protein powders so don’t bother with them.

this is what I take daily…
6 grams cod liver oil
flaxseed either ground in and poured into shakes or 3 grams in capsule form
5 grams superfood in protein shakes when I’ve got it (quite expensive can’t do it all the time
fiber in every protein shake
multi vitamin high quality
b-complex
zinc 50mg
barley grass high strength
green tea high potency
200-300 gram protein in shakes
3 grams CLA
2 grams C

some times before bed I have a Calcuim, magnesium and zinc

I sometimes take liquid creatine before training when I remember, I did take 20mg Dbol pre workout but it give me zits so I stopped. I have a years worth of creatine capsules I intend to start using when I remember.
