1g of Protein/Pound of Bodyweight

silence rapscallions!

this boy needs 1 gram per pound of bodyweight…end of story…calories are useless in my experience…

YEARS AGO I DID:

3500 Calories With 350 Grams Protein (always increased strength on squats cleans bench weekly)

or

6000 Calories With 200 Grams Protein (never increased strength on anything)

Thanks newbatman, thats a good testimonial, I’ll remember that, and Bricknyce, you also answered my original post when you said that you didn’t notice an extreme difference when you changed from eating okay to eating lots of good quality food, so thanks for that.

I’m not a troll by the way, seriously, echto5tango is my brother and I told him about the forum because it was really interesting to me and he wanted to join in as he’s very outspoken. Thanks again to all for a very entertaining thread!(to me atleast)

LOL! Congratulations, Brick. Thats actually somewhat accurate. I DO love to fuck with people (some make it easier than others…). That being said, I honestly did join on primarily to talk weights and grub. No need to be mad at each other, just poking at open wounds. Thats all. In the Marines, we beleieve that if youre not fuckin with somebody, you dont like them. This can be the beginning of somethin good, Brick. Lets let yesterday be yesterday and move forward.

Ha! Look at this! The BOUNCER is callin ME retarded! December IS gonna be fun…

I find it hard to take a thread seriously about nutrition, body composition, and weight training, when the OP has an avatar of themselves at a party, two-fisting booze…

I also find it unlikely that the OP can’t maintain an adequate protein ratio due to costs, when (as Brick mentioned) we have stores like Costco to be your friend. I can buy a 5 flat of eggs that’s about 10 or so dozen eggs for peanuts. I can buy top quality canned tuna for pennies on the dollar. A box of chicken breasts that fills my jumbo BBQ at home, twice to three times over when cooking, for less than a meal at McDonalds for a family of 4… Quality steaks in bulk for the cost of my 6 year old’s allowance…

So either you’re so poor that your living at a food bank to supply your family with food and you can’t afford to go to a gym, or this is pure crap as my 6 year old can easily afford to do it and throw in a new My Little Pony toy each week to boot…

I can go on, but I can’t help but think troll on this, as too many things don’t add up…

I hope fucking with people serves you well. That is… until you instigate the wrong person who demands you to throw your fucking hands up!

And how does being a bouncer make one retarded? One of the brightest writers on this site, Chad Waterbury, who holds advanced degrees in science, was a bouncer. People have to earn a living while they go to school or otherwise, jackass! Not to mention the perks of being a bouncer (eg, women, connections, socializing).

I’m just a little upset that you can’t say stuff to Waylander’s face. You know: up close, live, in person. I heard 280 pounds of brawn makes for a real pushover!

Your testimonial, so to speak, doesn’t even make any sense. Your bodyweight, training methods, or food choices weren’t even taken into consideration.

And, the way you speak is as if your experience would be the end all be all to sports nutrition.

Of course you’d remember the post that gives you permission to eat less while still ‘guarenteeing’ results. You’re lazy. You are going to take the easiest route whenever possible. You are even too lazy to fight your own battles. You had to call your brother to back you up because you couldn’t even straighten your spine enough to speak up for yourself.

In a year or two or three you will be in the exact same spot you are now because you don’t realize that taking the easiest route possible does not work when someone is trying to make changes in their physique. Needless to say it also doesn’t work in powerlifting (it’s kind of embarassing to call you a powerlifter with a neck that small) because no one is going to lift the weight for you.

You’re wasting everyone’s time.

Elusive, you beat me to it.

I respond to your PUBLIC post with a little criticism about your over-emotional BS - and IM nonsensical.

This kid politely and respectfully requests answers to a simple inquiry, you tell him hes “annoying” - and IM nonsensical.

You respond to simple, easy questions with multiple multi-page answers when the answer should take less than a couple of sentences (bravo everyone else) - and IM nonsensical.

I shoot down steroids, an illegal drug - used by low-life cheaters - that deforms (bitch-tits, etc.) and sometimes kills its users (which youve not yet denounced leaving me wondering if you use) not to mention takes away from our sport in every way imaginable - and IM nonsensical.

As for bein a “1 post newcomer”, please - words hurt. I have feelings you know… (single tear)

If I hurt your feelings, tough. Suck it up. Your whining only encourages me.

Got THAT, Mr. 17,376 poster?!

As for your post, Whogivsadamn - lift HEAVY, plan your meals out ahead of time, try the .8-1.2 g/lbs rule, eat every 3-6 hours, drink plenty of H2O (BW/2 = min fl oz) and get plenty of sleep. If that doesnt work, try somethin else till you find what works for you.

You’re definitely the OP.

17k poster? Brick has been here since '02 and barely has more than twice as many posts that I have had in the last year. And, you’re the only one that mentioned steriods in this thread.

Yup, you barely graduated high school and had to join the armed forces so you wouldn’t end up on the street. I on the other hand go to college and work at a club for some extra dough. So sue me

Do you always come to your friends rescue like this? Maybe you wipe his ass and hold his dick for him while he pees? Oh let me guess…they taught you that in the marines.

WORD!

And thank you, Chi!

Just an update to my post…

I just had my first snack (meal 2) - 39g of protein, 8.5g of carbs, plus a slew of veegies I’m not counting…

The horrors!

All for less than your morning latte…

Price an issue = Fail…

they are the same person. one person with one goal to troll the shit out of this forum.

BONEZ:

Did I just read a couple pages ago that you weigh under 180? Or did I misread something? You look pretty big. The only logical way you could weigh that and look so big is either… you have no legs… or… I dunno O_O

I’ve weighed as much as 185. Only held that for a few weeks because I wasn’t prepared to eat that much. Comfortably weighed 180 for a while. Then the summer started and between playing baseball, walking around Europe for 2 weeks, going to Las Vegas for 5 days, and going to the Carribean for 5 days (a few weeks ago) I fluctuated from as low as 165 to what I’m at now 177ish. I was about 170 (little more maybe) in this avatar picture. My legs aren’t bad at all but are certainly not my best feature. I’ve found that tall people overestimate how heavy short people with fairly low bodyfat are.

I answered it, but not in the way you’re explaining! I meant that people who eat alright FROM THE START won’t see “MAGICAL” changes as they would if they ate like shit in the BEGINNING–FROM THE START–and then one day, abruptly went to eating adequate protein and appropriate food choices.

I’m sure you’re thinking what I said meant something like: “It doesn’t matter; go ahead and eat crap; after all, I didn’t see a huge difference when I went from eating like shit to good!”

Now get out of here (gives swift kick to the backside and slams door)!

You’re on the brink of doing it? The cost is limiting you? Are you getting your protein from crystallized puppy dog tears and the crushed dreams of children? 205g of protein is not all that much is what I’m saying here.
A gallon of Skim
$2.99 - $3.49
128 g protein and all the carbs “I” can tolerate…

Alright guys, I wasn’t trying to be annoying, and Bricknyce, I appreciate the long response(I’ve read all the posts completely), and the lifters I know and lift with all have their strengths and weaknesses, one guy benches 350, another deads 530, and the strongest of us squats 540 and benches well over 300, were not world-class or anything like that so no need to mock those numbers. I think we are having a lively discussion though. This thread may be annoying, but its interesting too.

And why dont many of you guys have pics of yourselves in your avatars? You are all giving me good info(which I agree completely with, you guys have done your research), then shouldn’t you have physiques worthy of showing off? Maybe its a privacy thing, so I’m not criticizing, just curious.

And one final thing. Can I get some personal experience testimonials about when you changed your nutrition? What happened? Did your lifts skyrocket, or was the change much more subtle? I’m just wondering. I lift with average guys who don’t really have time or the money to afford all the good foods and supplements that are required for optimal performance, so I have no experience with it, only what I’ve read in books. If I’m still annoying you guys, I apologize, it is not my goal.
Studies show high protein diets are optimal for recovery. 1g to 1.7g with decreasing returns (for non-augmented individuals)… Old farts are less sensitive and need more per pound… Any metabolic sub optimizations such as insulin resistance or low T increase requirements. Also many formulas use 1g per pound lbm, some per pound body weight… Huge difference… These statements are from replicated studies.

This is a hard core site.

Some of these guys MP your bench (not me), many have avoided injury over the long haul. Give due respect to those who have tried to help. Some of these guys are elite, 3 standard deviation in accomplishment (not me).

Whats essential to me is my protein powder. Not cause I cant eat enough protein as solid food, but because it makes getting all my protein a lot easier. If its easy, I’m more likely to stick to it. Thats important. Consistancy.

I put a scoop in my porridge in the morning, and cause it tastes better and changes the consistancy I can eat more. I also sometimes have a pint of milk with a scoop of protein in again if I think I’ve not eaten enough after work/ before setting off for a late shift. Thats roughly 60g of protein I wouldn’t have got otherwise, and I dont notice it. Doesn’t fill me up or anything. Cost is an issue to you, but its £17 and lasts a couple of weeks. Thats affordable to me.

I’ve got 60 eggs in my house right now. I think they cost me £5 … they’ll last 2 weeks. Thats the best part of 14 meals of scrambled egg on toast for £7.

Tuna is dirt cheap. Frozen chicken breasts too, a kilo for £4. Buy a bag of rice, a bag of chicken breasts, and 4-5 cans of chopped tomato and some veg you like… bang, over a weeks worth of meals for under £10. A big bag of nuts costs little too, and are packed with healthy fats, protein and they’re really calorie dense.

Everything I’ve suggested isnt optimal but it’s good enough. Good enough for me to have gained 10lbs in 2 months atleast so I know it’s working for me.

Hope you can take something from this advice without bitching and moaning.
