1g of Protein/Pound of Bodyweight

Do magic things happen when you finally start getting a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight? I’m on the brink of doing it but the issue of cost is keeping me on the brink. Right now I’m getting maybe half a gram per pound of bodyweight. I don’t even want to post my stats as they are laughable and you can tell from my pic that I’m still skinny by TMuscle standards. Just wondering if the jump into protein powders and eating more animals is earth-shattering.

Yes. The big boys eat large amounts of protein, there is no coincidence.

I think you may be wanting to think about the following:

How much food are you eating?

  • more protein isn’t going to help too much if you’re still not eating enough
How much protein are you getting as a proportion of you diet?
  • if you’re having 60g of protein a day but you’re eating 3500kcal a day then you are very probably going to end up with body composition problems.

Within that blend of issues then you can work out if the 1g/lb is the thing you should focus on at the moment. Also of course protein quality is an issue but as I see it the overall hierarchy is as follows:

CALORIES first: energy intake, and then,
SOURCES: you got them from (proportions and sources of macronutrients: food choices), and then
TIMING: when you consumed what you consumed (nutrient timing)

I honestly don’t think we need as much protein as were often told. Most people on here will be splitting their food intake between maybe 5 or 6 meals a day, I believe if you consume a moderate ammount of good quality protein at each meal, pay strict attention to good pre/during/post workout nutrition and take in a casein or high protein and fat meal before bed you’ll more than likely need not worry about calculating the protein your getting each day.

As I was saying over in CT’s forum protein has a lot more implications than just muscle.

If you’re not eating protein where else are you getting your calories and what does this mean for health and body comp?

Then you look at what concentrated quality protein itself does in the body with regards satiety, GI/II of meals, glucagon, TEF, immuno competence and the connected health outcomes. Then there are the factors interesting to BB’er like nitrogen balance/protein turnover & IGF-1 etc.

Is there ‘magic’ that happens over 1g/lb bodyweight? No, not IMPE.

Do higher protein diets work (caveat good sources and choices)? Yes, IME.

We will see who’s the best in the World Cup, ho.

No, nothing magic happens with 1 g/ lb. Something magic DOES happen when you eat a retarded amount of food and lift like a man in the gym, though.

lol, by what standards would you not be considered skinny?

anorexia-nation.com?

right now i’d worry about eating lots and lifting heavy.

You’re on the brink of doing it? The cost is limiting you? Are you getting your protein from crystallized puppy dog tears and the crushed dreams of children? 205g of protein is not all that much is what I’m saying here.

T-Nation Quittage team is a must, bringing my forearms up really helped with my seeking abilities. Are we going to get new brooms this season?

As far as protein, try to get 25-30 grams at each meal and 25-30 grams before and after your lifts, if you do that, and bust your ass in the gym, you will be headed down the right path. Read as many nutrition articles as you can on this site and you will see what direction you need to take for the goals that you have in mind.

It’s Quidditch damnit! Come on guys, this is important stuff we’re talking about here.

I can’t argue with Google.

I’m up to 3g per pound of bw at the moment, and i grow faster than ever. I try to get 4g/lb, but that’s really hard, especially when you try to keep the food uptake high.

I try to get 50-60g of protein with every meal.

damn, thanks for all the info guys, and HolyMacaroni, I wish! anorexics would KILL to be this skinny…

As someone who is a sucky noob… no, it doesn’t change your life. The other key component is busting ass in the gym.

Biggest change was in my pooping experience. So it’s still worth it.

If you’re getting 1g/lbs of bodyweight but undereating then your progress will not only stall but also regress. Protein is only one facet you need to be concerned with.

how many grams of protein does 1 gallon of whole milk have? 150 calories per serving and that’s 8 ounces…so that’s a lot of calories… 16 servings and we have about 8-12 grams of protein so that would be your daily need plus the food you eat… you can’t afford 2.50 a day?
