Zercher Squats vs. Front Squats

I’ve heard some mention of them, but it doesn’t appear they’d do anything different from a front squat. Do they work other muscles? If so, which?

The user Undeadlift swears by these … at least I mean he highly suggests them for legs. I would PM him for specific answers if he doesn’t see this thread.

The only advantage of Zercher squats is that you can do them without a squat rack and you can lift more than you can clean. You do it by lifting the bar from the floor or off blocks by lifting with the crooks of your elbows.

Your center of gravity is also lower in a Zercher, which I would assume takes some of the stress off of your lower back and abs (or at least shifts it to a different angle). that’s something to consider.
