How Would Zercher Squats Benefit Me?

Hello.

I squat twice a week.

On volume day, I do 5x3 safety bar squats. For a bit more volume, these are followed by 5x5 landmine squats (I have this nifty wishbone attachment).

On intensity day, I do 3x2 safety bar squats.

I wonder if it would benefit me to include Zercher squats into this. What do you think?

They’re fun as all get out, but unless you have Conan’s wheel or atlas stone type events, you don’t really need 'em. They’re a nice variation of you just get tired of straight squatting though.

Thank you!
The reason why I’m asking is because I saw fatbars available reasonably cheaply, and I could do with the variety.
Having looked around, one thing I’ll definitely try Thursday is Zercher RDLs. I have problems engaging my hamstrings, and I heard somewhere that the Zercher variety could be a remedy, what with the added emphasis on bracing and whatnot. We’ll see where it goes.

Or throw the caber or can’t do squats any other way.

Do them if you feel they’re fun. If your body responds to exercise, anything you do helps. If your body doesn’t respond, nothing makes any difference.

My name is Bob, and I have been lifting over 60 years now. I love front squats, however my wrists can’t take the pressure anymore. I switched to Zerchers several years ago and they are great! I can squat deeper then front squats and work the quads effectively. I like to switch up my position of my feet and where I hold the bar. One workout will be a narrow space of my elbows and a wide foot stance and then a wide space of the elbow and a narrow foot stance. I try to keep my elbows from hitting the top of my thighs. Good luck!

I re introduced zerchers again over the summer and really do enjoy them. First messed with them back in the late 90’s after reading about them on JV ASKEM cable bar guy website. I like to rotate between Anderson zerchers from my rack and regular zercher squats. Setting the pins from parallel or slightly below parallel and starting from the dead stop position. Also loving zercher Carrie’s outside. Rotating b/w distance sets “ 200-300 ft a set “ and shorter heavier distance 100-200 ft a set”. Heck I bought an axle bar soley for zerchers, lol. Such a fun exercise. Spices stuff up after many years of training especially in garage. Plus the added bonus of upper back and trap work. B/w the zerchers and snatch grip hip hinge work it’s ignited a growth response within that region. My garage session last night was axle zercher lunges 50 total per leg for a warmup pump. 5x5 Anderson zercher axle squats then one amrap set of 10. 4 sets of zercher carries. I feel great this am. Definitely recommend for variety and keeping training fun as we age :+1:
