1a) lateral sled pull, 50’x4, each direction, 60 lbs loaded on sled
1b) man maker 5x4 w/30 lb dumbbells
Iso-lateral row, 3x20, 90 per side, upper back emphasis
3a) patrick step down, 3x10, w/15 lbs
3b) GHR 3x8, I couldn’t do these because I screwed up my shin pretty good on Tuesday night (superficial, but painful) so I tried heavy seated hamstring curls, and that also felt like it wanted to split my shin and knee back open.
4a) ab wheel → substituted 3x10 hanging leg raises instead… again because of the shin/knee and not wanting to further damage it
4b) sled sprint with 135 loaded on sled, 50’x3
Also, of note, the other day I pulled some test due to the gyno I have been dealing with, currently running:
350/610/140 test c/NPP/tren e per week, also still running 2 IU gh daily.
BW: 245.4
BP: 135/78 (I am not sure why it is up today)
macros yesterday: I didn’t do a great job of tracking, but I imagine I went slightly over (guesstimate 300-500 cals over) which I am ok with because I’m gonna need the extra energy in the gym today. Friday’s and Monday’s are “ass-kicker” days.
BW: 245
BP: not measured today
Macros yesterday: 228/96/520 (went over a bit to helps refeed from a grueling workout.
log clean and press away
250x6
235x5
200x2x6
Back down sets were all supposed to be 235, but it was a bit much after my top set and I knew I still had an entire workout ahead of me.
front squat
365x2
this was supposed to be a top double at RPE 8, but my shin kept me from getting the knee bend required to sit upright and I had a hard time not dumping the weight. My depth was good but my torso was leaning forward. I think 400x2 would easily be there if I wasn’t about to dump it every time.
285x3x2
600 lb yoke for 100’.
Ran this in about 25.5 seconds. Certainly that isn’t fast, but I have made a TON of improvement on yoke so I’m pretty pleased with it. I’m determined to take my yoke from being a weakness to being a strength.
Sandbag throws
6x1 w/ 50 lb bag
1 run of 35/40/50 in about 10s
2a) log strict press from rack, starting from weak point
220x6
170x3x6
2b) single arm dumbbell rows
3x12 @ 95 lbs
axle deadlifts
580x2
missed 600, speed of the floor was fantastic, but once I hit my knee it immediately turned into a grinder. Watching the video I quit too early, but the competition weight is 525 for reps, so 600 for 2 just wasn’t worth my energy/effort at this moment in time.
Also something popped in my right shoulder, right where the front delt and trap come together, during deadlifts, during my back off sets. So I skipped stones to save my shoulder.
They’re sled pushes, if you’re familiar with the prowler, that’s what I am pushing. I was super setting the hanging leg raises with the sled pushes, and resting 30 seconds between rounds. Sometimes I take a little more time if I feel like going to soon is going to push my asthma over the edge.
Note: The “4a” and “4b” is my designation for a super set.
No workout yesterday, it was a pretty sedentary day. I usually will get a 20-30 min walk in, but my treadmill broke and it rained a bunch yesterday. Getting a new treadmill today. Today’s workout should be a good one though, it’s gonna be fairly heavy event work. I’ll fill y’all in tomorrow.
Current cycle hasn’t changed, but just as a refresher:
350/610/140 test C/NPP/Tren E per week with 2 IU GH daily. The GH is strictly for recovery, I’ll drop it probably 7-10 days from my competition (depending on when my deload starts) to help drop water weight. For some reason I get A LOT of estrogenic activity with GH.
BW: 245.2
BP: 136/68 (Idk why it was so high today, maybe had to do with the toddler melt down right before taking the BP)
Macros yesterday: not measured
Got a couple workouts to update:
27 May
log clean and push press
270x3 (was supposed to be a set of 4, but in usual fashion I screwed up the last rep
250x4
230x4
210x4
cambered bar back squat
425x4 (supposed to be an RPE 8 but I took it easy here to save my hips for yoke)
355x3x2 with 2 count pause in the hole
axle bar deadlift
525x6
395x6 w/2 count pause off the floor. I was supposed to do 3 sets of this, but last Monday something popped in my delt doing deadlifts and I felt it creeping up yesterday on my first back off set, so I just skipped the last 2 sets.
Stone over 52" bar
3x3 @ 300 w/ 15s rest between sets
log clean and press
-top single at 300 (20 lb PR). I finally joined the 300 lb club on log
-310, miss (clean was decent but I screwed up on the press. I believe I am strong enough to press 310, but I had poor press technique on that particular press)
backs offs:
275x1
255x2
235x2
yoke run
650x100’, total time roughly 28.5 seconds, which is another huge PR for me. In my first ever competition 2.5 yrs ago, I took 610x50’ in about 24 seconds. yoke still isn’t a strength of mine, but I’m gonna keep pushing until it is.
1a) bench press
top double at 360. The weight was pretty easy, but on the way back up, the press floated towards my head a little too quickly on the second rep and I tweaked my elbow pretty good. This required me to skip about half of my total workout due to elbow pain.
stone load
2x4 @ 300, 15 seconds rest between sets. this took about 64 seconds, taking out the 15 seconds of rest.
I have a competition coming up in less than 2 weeks and I think I am peaking at exactly the right time. This past workout was the first one to make me REALLY feel trashed in the 6 week peaking block.
The events for the show are:
max log (based on the jumps, I think my 3 attempts will be 275, 295, 315)
sangbag throw, 35, 40, 45 to 15 ft (I’m shooting for about 10 seconds, which should be good enough for first)
axle deadlift for reps at 525. I have already hit a set of 8 in training, I think I could hit 12-14 if I need to in the competition, but hopefully I won’t need that many to win. Based on a previous competition from last year, I saw the winner hit 10 reps at this same weight, and the second place guy hit 8, and everyone else hit 3 or less.
yoke walk, 650 lbs for 100 ft for time. I’m shooting for 24-25 seconds. Not record breaking but probably good enough to get top 2.
300 lb stone load for max reps in a minute. I’m shooting for 8-10 reps.
1a) lateral sled pull
4x100’ (50 each way) w/ 90 lbs on sled
1b) man maker
Had to cut this short, I screwed up my elbow on Sunday and wasn’t sure my elbow would hold up if I did this movement for all of the sets and reps I was programmed
iso-lateral low row
3x20
3a) patrick step down
3x10 each leg, 3" step down with 25 lb kb
Nothing new to report right now, I’m mid water cut for a competition this weekend. Gotta be 231.4 on Friday morning weigh-ins. I started my water load at about 245 eight days ago, current body weight is 240.
Yesterday was my first day back in the gym since my competition, 11 days ago. Luckily it was just a cardio/conditioning day, and I’m happy to say that my conditioning feels about the same. Usually I get a steep performance decline after competitions, but these last 2 competitions haven’t been that way.
I won’t go into too much detail about the events or the competition itself because I think it’ll give away too much personal detail for anyone willing to look, but I did win the competition and one guy I beat was in the top 10, nationally, last year. It was a REALLY fun day and that competition reminded me of why I like strongman so much.
Now it’s time to start prepping for nationals.
O yea I came off everything for about 12 days and just started my TRT back up yesterday. BW is 244 after 2 weeks of eating like a child (somehow managed to kinda keep some visible abs) and BP was 124/73 this morning.
Well that’s not entirely true. I just remembered that I decided to try a different approach, and really it’s more of a cruise than TRT. I decided to run 100/100 test c/tren e until I start my next blast in mid august, leading up to nats in mid October. I wanted to see if there’s any benefit to it. I certainly don’t recommend it to anyone, but with the unconventional goals I have in mind, I’m trying something unconventional.
