Well, I have decided to go ahead and start a training log. I may not update this everyday as I don’t want it to feel like a chore, but I feel like strongman information and interest isn’t really all that great, maybe I can change some minds, maybe I’ll just be posting into the internet void.
If anyone could let me know, is this section strictly for training logs or do many people put gear cycles, nutrition, etc on here?
EDIT: tagging @mnben87 since he was the one that suggested I do this, so he may be interested
Sand bag throws, 50 lbs to 15’, 6 reps w/20s rest between. Each throw made it close to 16.5-17’
2a) log strict press out of the rack (starting 1/4 of the way up, my weak spot)
240x2
190x2x3
2b) bent over single arm dumbbells rows
90 lbs, 3x12 each arm
Axle bar deadlifts
545x6 (I’m an idiot because this was only supposed to be 4 reps and 6 reps was definitely an RPE 9. I just misread it)
back offs 405x4x3 (2 count pause off the ground
Stone over 52" bar w/300lb stone
2x4, 30s rest between and 1 single at the end (total 9 reps)
Well I guess I can put in macros and my current cycle.
Macros yesterday were off, 160/60/452 p/f/c. I was about 60 low on protein and about 20 low on fat. Usually I have no problem eating, but the day got away from me.
Current cycle is 420/525/140 test c/npp/tren e. About 3 weeks in. BP has been consistently in the 120/70 range.
I’ll be honest, I have been terrible at updating mine lately. But I try to keep the few people interested up to date on any experiments I do. I had mentioned BP being high in the past, so I believe mentioning the cardio I am doing, and the low dose Telimasartin along with BP numbers here and there might be useful to someone.
I like having the cycle data. I think it gives people a more realistic view of what AAS will do, because the starting point is there, the progress in the training (and what the training is) can be seen. More useful than the posts were guys claim to gain 25 lbm on their cycle. Those have no context. We don’t know the starting point of the individual. We can’t see how much of that claimed 25 lbm is actually lean.
TBH I’ve been getting more interested in strongman stuff. Maybe not competing (I’m only 5’9 and have little T-Rex length arms so I don’t think I’d do well) but the training sounds like a lot more fun than doing boring ass 3x10 sets. That and if loaded carries were food - they’d be the nectar of the gods.
Ever since my false heart scare, I have been REALLY crazy about taking care of my heart (he says with nandrolone and trenbolone in his veins). I do 20-30 mins LISS 3-4 days/wk and I take some OTC supps to keep my BP in range. I check blood pressure daily, usually about 30 minutes after waking up.
I looked him up and he’s got a 700lb deadlift with 315x5 log press… THIS is why I don’t know if competing is right for me lol. Not that I’d need to be first but that I know for sure I couldn’t touch those numbers, or the numbers of many people following behind his. I just don’t see the point in putting a Civic in a drag race against top-fuel dragsters is what I’m saying.
Still, I like the training. Functional strength without the injury-inducing tendencies of Crossfit.
He certainly didn’t get there overnight. My log press has been stagnant for 2.5 years, and just last Friday, I FINALLY hit a new PR. If you’re willing to dedicate the time and commitment, you could certainly become competitive.
To be moderately competitive on the amateur national stage, a 625-650 deadlift and 300 lb log press will get you there. There’s a reason he’s a pro lol.
Perhaps as I implement more strongman type exercises in my training, my interest in competing will increase. As @mnben87 said, I could just compete for fun, I just don’t want to overdo it is all (I already do this with the gym now).
I wasn’t trying to turn this into a conversation about all the reasons I couldn’t do it, I just meant to say I was interested in the training behind it. It’s always been a belief of mine that every weightlifting sport could take something from the others and do well to implement it.
It’s a shame that most people feel this way. I often hear people say they aren’t strong enough for strongman. I love strongman and I could annoy everyone on here by talking about it constantly haha, but I wish more people would just try it, I think a lot of people get it in their heads that they have to be the size of Brian Shaw or Hafthor Bjornson to be good at it.
How do you like the 2iu of GH? Make a difference long term?
I’ve been thinking I am on the cruise lifestyle for awhile at least. If I am going to add something, I want it to be sustainable long term. That has me looking to GH.
I think you could run 2 IU GH more or less indefinitely. I really like it, I feel more well recovered after hard workouts and I sleep better. Especially since I’m running nand and tren. I have only been back on GH for about 2-3 weeks so I can’t say much about long term. I just know that running much more than that isn’t really in my plans.
EDIT: a couple more items to note: above 2 IU I was getting a lot of hand numbness while sleeping, and I felt like my joints were getting tight.
Also, for some reason, I get a ton of estrogenic activity from GH, even at 2 IU. I cut back my test dose today from 420/wk to 350/wk.
Obviously I believe the good outweighs the bad or I wouldn’t be running it, but just some things to watch out for
