LW Strongman to Powerlifter

Starting anew yet again. Since very few people here know who I am, I’ve been training for about 5 years and spent the latter 2 years training strongman and competing in the sport as a <231 lightweight. I’ve competed twice, and placed 5th in 14’ NC’s Strongest Man. After that, I decided I wanted to dedicate the year of 2014 to qualifying for NAS nationals, but the plans failed to come to fruition due to a pretty nasty injury in late March.

My goals in this next chapter of my training are to actually become statically strong(er). To improve upon my weaknesses from a powerlifting perspective. Unsure about doing a meet, but who knows. I am open to anything.

I’m 20 years old. ~225-235 depending on diet, and 5’8".

Training PR’s
Deadlift: 500x8, 635x1 from 3" blocks. 500x4 conv.
Bench: 385x1, 315x9, 425x1 slingshot
Strict Overhead: 280x1, 275x2
Push Jerk: 315x4, 340x1
Front Squat: 425x1
Back Squat: 500x1

Most of these lifts are done out of the blue, because of my training style, I infrequently bench pressed and back squatted, etc. Going to change that now. I want a 600+ deadlift, 400+ bench, and 500+ squat. All modest goals to happen in the foreseeable future.

Blah blah blah. 2 weeks off I’m back.

9/1/14
Pre-workout stretching, rolling, band flossing, etc.

Back Squat
45x8
95x8
135x5
185x8x3 (8 sets of 3 reps) Actually working on making these feel comfortable. They felt acceptable, but far from ideal.

Bulg. split squats (done only with my right leg due to that being quite lagged from the injury)
x8,x8,x8,x8,x8

Lying Banded Hamstring Curls (per leg)
x8 (green band in half)
x12,x12,x12(blue band in half)

done.

Oh ma goodness. Oh ma damn. Vin’s going HAM.

Strongman is my passion, but it’s a niche I’d like to pursue when my body is more mature and overall stronger. It’s definitely not better lol. Powerlifting is so much more beginner friendly, among other things.

Took time to stretch my hips a bit which is unusual for me before benching, but all I did was a simple hip flexor stretch with a band and it definitely helped to create more mobility and comfort in an arch position. bw@231

Bench Press
45x10
135x5
185x3
225x3
255x18 PR…? had a very hard day today so i wasnt sure how this would go. obviously went exceptional.
Slingshot on
225x18

One arm banded tri. pushdowns
x10
x10
x10

Front/Side laterals
x10/10
x10/10
x10/10

Face pulls
x10
x10
x10

Definitely good for 275x15 fresh. Maybe 315x10, and perhaps 390-400 for one if I’m feelin stout.

255x18

So since you are powerlifting, does this mean you will not be attempting to pick up any more bears and press them overhead?

F-f-f-f-fa FUCK no. My 12" log from Texas Power Concepts will be here within the next 2-3 weeks.

You will find me pressing on that frequently. Might be the only bit of strongman I salvage for the while.

Laptop fucking broke. Will have to find other ways to internet besides phone for a while cause I tripped putting on my socks in the morning.
