I know you all lug 40 pounds (er, that’s approximately 18.18 kg for you, Schmidt and other non-US friends) of equipment stuffed into your gym bag whenever you go train. So, what’s inside? Here’s mine:
3 bands (red, black, and purple from Elite)
Dip belt
Fat Gripz
Lifting straps
1 and 2 boards (on occasion) and a bungee cord
Home-made wrist roller
Blast straps (though not when I travel; TSA seems to have a problem with them)
Chalk
Knee wraps (actually they’re coming on Friday, just in time for squatting on Saturday)
I think that’s it. Doesn’t seem like that much until I actually need to find something in there.
Belt
2*shoes (one for deadlift and one for the rest)
shirt
towel
sweat towel
1 poud of chicken breast
2 pounds of veggies
Spud strap
chalk
training pant
shaker and powder
1 tennis ball
lifting straps (never use them)
I’ve been to a couple of gyms recently (even a Gold’s in Atlanta) where they don’t allow gym bags on the floor. The only reason I can think up for such a stupid policy is to reduce clutter. Depending on what I’m doing, it can really make training tricky. One time I had to sneak some chalk out in a towel (I figured the chalk would be even more of a no-no) to do some deads.
a tape measure because I have to construct a box out of cardio steps and 45lb plates
ziploc baggie full of chalk
roadrunner and wily e coyote bandana
4"x12" pvc pipe for rolling
lacrosse ball
wrist straps for shrugs and pull down abz
uber pimp heavy duty EFS knee sleeves
ace bandage
bottle of water. not water bottle. bottle of water, 32oz, like you get at costco
new efs belt that is still too damn stiff
ipod thingy
i carry all this shit in a little canvas bag that was a give-away at some trade show, because gym bags aren’t allowed in the gym. so my weight room bag is separate from my gym bag, which has clean clothes and shower shit and shoes.
Most of what’s in my bag is shoes, clothes, hair products and makeup, since I go to work after I workout. Other than that, it’s just my notebook, straps, knee wraps and chalk ball. I have to be sneaky with the chalk, though. The early morning attendant is a chalk Nazi.

We have the chalk NAzi too, I use an eco ball which is invisible chalk and they seem not to notice.
3 sets of bands (light/mon. minis/micro minis)
10 mm belt
chalk
powder
straps
wrist wraps
knee wraps
Capzasin
water bottle
deodorant
lock
stretchy warm-up thing (for holding boards)
The Sword cd…how’d that get there ?
I have a bag, but really it changes. Everything stays in the back of my Durango:
boards
bands
prowler
plates
4 belts
bench shirt
briefs
converse
sambas (like em better for both benching and pulling)
knee wraps
3 pair wrist wraps
ipod
chalk
straps
dip belt (haven’t used in awhile)
I rotate items into the bag depending on what day it is
Some good ideas here that will only serve to accelerate my transformation into a gear junkie.
Yo Momma: thanks for the tip on makeup; I hadn’t thought of that, but it will end up saving me a lot of time.
Joe: a bag of chalk lasts forever it seems, but I’ll definitely be checking out the Eco Ball.
MJ: tape measure. That’s brilliant for checking box height. And, I can check the size of my guns at the same time. Perfect. And they let you get away with a white canvas bag, because it’s somehow not a “gym bag”?
If from home, no bag, just a towel. Both gyms I use usually have plenty of chalk out in bowls. If from work, shorts (sweat pants in winter), shirt, shoes, jock, towel. Bag for meets has a lot more in it.
Remeber I am a trainer so take it for what it is worth.
