Wow, St. Pierre must not have had his Spike. Serra owned him. That was a great fight.

Is he still affilited with (or sponsored by) Biotest? I didn’t notice any Spike or Biotest logos on his trunks.
I really wondered that too, but if you look closely, I think you can see the very angular design on his trunks; compare that to the red spike on the can (right behind the word SPIKE.)

I wonder if he had picked up a couple more sponsors after he won the belt, and Biotest just had to share the space…

You OK Simjim?

Okami is a pussy? What does that mean? Okami won this fight easily- he grounded and pounded Swick the entire 3rd round. Swick really did nothing other than that 20 second flurry at the end of round 2.

If Okami had had a bit more left in his tank, he would have destroyed Swick during the g&p. He gassed a bit and was throwing weak punches (is that why he’s a pussy in your opinion? His punches weren’t strong?)

And Hughes was ecstatic because he may be able to fight Serra to regain his title, and Serra is a much more favorable matchup for him. And he was ecstatic b/c the guy who beat him got Ko’d. Wouldn’t you be happy?

I hate guys who show up looking to simply counter. It leads to fights that end up reminding me too much of what boxing has become, fighters unwilling to commit who spend 10 to 15 rounds circling and accomplishing nothing.

I remember a few years ago when I was watching a Roy Jones Jr fight and the guy he was facing spent the whole time running away or covering up. Jones tooled him the whole time and then after the final round(12th round) the guy throws his hands up and celebrates like he won the fight because he lasted to a decision. That is not where I want MMA to go.

Okami did nothing but wait for Swick to commit so he could take him down and lay on him.

As for Hughes, you’d think if he was truly a warrior he would want to see GSP win so that he could avenge his loss to him in a title shot, not get what he saw as an easier fight.

I can see your point of view. Some guys are just better as counterfighters though and they would lose if they started to believe they could do something they can’t. I do think that some counter-fighters are boring and laying and not being active on a guy is boring as well.

If Okami could do what he did to Swick that means Swick didn’t really do a great job of preventing it from happening. Okami isn’t the next great thing and has limitations, he stayed within those limitations.

As for boxing well nearly every contender Jones fought for years at LHW were guys who had no chance against him. Roy is also a guy who didn’t like to take chances and was careful about his health AND his opponents. That set of circumstances gives you boring fights.

Not all counter-fighters are pussies. Watch a James Toney fight. That is a guy with true counter-fighting skills.

Well, Jones did his share of showboating in his later fights, here against Kelly…

serra is no buster douglas so i wouldn’t count him out against hughes. the guy’s got real momentum, is motivated, and has demonstrated his will and ability to improve dramatically. that and hughes is a pussy.

Hey All,

I was at UFC 69 last night. Had the $150.00 tickets…the second cheapest available. Still great seats. The Toyota center is awesome. The parking garage sucks though. If anyone ever goes, don’t drop the $15 on a parking pass, just park at one of the lots across the street and walk across. Took us almost an hour to get out of the parking garage.

Saw Melvin Gilard (sp?) and Shonnie Carter in the garage after the fights…my only encounters with UFC “celebrities.”

I was hoping it would be profitable for the UFC so they will come back and I think it was. In the post event press conference Dana White said the gate sales were more than when the Rolling Stones performed at the Toyota Center.

Fight of the night was definitely the lightweights. Diego and Kos a big disappointment. Surprised by Serra vs. GSP, but not disappointed. Would have been happy with either guy winning as long as it was a good fight…and it was.

Here’s the GSP/Serra fight:

my view of the night
Serra v. Pierre, favorite fight
I like serra I like pierre they both came out ready and wanting to fight, it was a great exciting fight.

Sanchez v. Koscheck worst by far
PATHETIC me and one of my friends started counting strikes thrown in the 2nd round 41 for sanchez and 49 for kos what the hell is that, there wasn’t even a real clinch or a shoot, they should both be ashamed with that preformance

Heurta v.Garcia
thats what I like to see that was a close runner for best fight of the night, these two gave every thing they had for three rounds, with effort like that Garcia doesn’t even rack up a loss in my mind

Okami v. Swick
Great fight swick is a tough mf, but okami really fought hard for the win, I was dissapointed in the crowd for the way they boo’ed, they didn’t even boo kos and diego like that

Grove v. belcher
Good fight nothing memorable

The goal is the win the fight. You probably hate Bernard Hopkins or Winky Wright (defensive counter punchers to the extreme)… but they win.

Watching that fight on Youtube I was surprised it took so long for Big John to stop it. Pierre was getting pummeled on the ground so bad that he had to roll over and tap out. I definitely didn’t pick that fight but Serra did okay against BJ Penn so he has got some skills, good for him with the win. This shakes things up a bit.

SANCHEZ fought not to lose not to win and that always bites you in the ass.i would like to see hughes vs gsp before he takes on serra, but i know it wont happen

First, a fight is never stopped as long as someone can intelligently defend themselves…or at least try. And GSP was doing that much.

Second of all, GSP never tapped out, or even tried to tap from what I could see. At the end he simply tried to turn and cover his face to stop the beating. At that point, the best ref in mma stopped the fight.

It was a good stoppage and at the appropriate time.
Watch it again. St. Pierre clearly tapped 3 times while he was getting pummeled.

Watching GSP lose in such a way broke my heart. But I’m sure he will have the belt again by the end of this year.

check out this vid of koscheck pummeling a wannabe just a week before last night’s fight. apparently the guy was @ an appearance talking shit saying how he could beat koschek’s ass so koscheck was like “you know where my gym is man” , and the next week the guy shows up !

i usually like to hate on koscheck but i find it pretty cool how willing he was to get it on and spank this fool 1 week out from his fight with sanchez. awesome !

This truely is the year of the Upsets. Lets hope Fedor or Crocop breaks it. You guys shouldve watch Pride 34. It would ahve blown your minds how many upsets there were.

Here’s the thing, is it truly winning a fight? If it comes down to this, where guys are looking to simply win the decision, MMA loses its claim towards being called fighting.

I remember watching the first UFC(5 or 6?) where they had scoring and I’ve been worried about the way it would affect fighters since. Every time I see a guy go out with the intent to do enough to win the decision rather than finish the fight, I question the direction of the sport.

No question he tapped.

My take–

I felt Okami/Swick was a great fight for Okami. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it, but I really thought that he should have pushed the g&p in the last round. He should have finished it harder.

Huerta/Garcia was simply awesome to watch. I love lightweight fights, they tend to come out gunning for bear. Garcia was pretty clearly less technical and less effective with his standup IMHO, but he stayed alive and never got gun-shy (which I HATE). He took so many hard shots I thought he was always just on the brink of KO for the last 2 rounds, and somehow he managed to stay up. And continue to let his fists fly for the fences. God, that was a great fight. Favorite of the night by far.

Koscheck/Sanchez–

Well, while I thought it was a slow fight and somewhat boring, I also thought that Kos totally got inside Diego’s head, and I appreciated the technical side of it. I still watch boxing on occasion as well btw, so that may have something to do with it. Anyway, Diego simply didn’t know what to do with Kos. Kos kept tagging Diego with jabs and punches that were surprisingly accurate, making Sanchez hang on to his fists instead of letting them fly. He was obviously off his game–what do you do? Kos has stellar takedown defense and is always dangerous for the shoot and g/p because of his wrestling. But I think Sanchez was totally taken aback by the fact that Koscheck was much quicker and more accurate with his standup/counters that he probably expected. I know I was surprised with Kos’s improvements.

GSP/Serra

Damn. That’s it. I feel bad for GSP.
