Cro Cop Sux

OK, I am pretty new to the MMA thing and after listening to all you guys go on about Cro Cop I have to say I expected a bit more.

He got his ass whupped. That was not a freak KO.

CroCop never thought it was going to be a high kick - you can clearly see him move his hands to cover a body kick. He guessed wrong, and paid the price.

He’s a much better fighter than he showed tonight.

Cro Cop definitely doesn’t suck. Yes, he got knocked out in spectacular fashion, but shit, it’s MMA and these things happen. Gonzaga is a great athlete, under the radar until now, but still a great athlete. Cro Cop has also been KO’d before…and he’s delivered his fair share of KO’s and beaten some of the best fighters in the world in his career.

Kind of ironic that the man known for the leg kicks is KO’d by a leg kick; but to say the man sucks is out of line.

I was watching the fight at the bar with a bunch of the guys. After the screams when the kick was delivered, half the bar said in unison, “With his own move”

I find it highly ironic that he got knocked out with his own signature technique.

Cro Crop still is an amazing fighter, he just got bested this time. Badly.

He was getting destroyed the whole round. He ate a bunch of elbows and was way behind.

Obviously the man does not suck but he is WAY over rated.

Also these guys couldn’t be the best for ever. its about time some new talent came up and Demolished the old talent, its the only way for the sport to go… oh well at least fedor is still there(bring him over ufc and lets see the best in the world).

for a man who admits to not knowing much about MMA you sure seem to have made your mind up about crocop…

Eroneous! Eroneous! Eroneous on both counts!

Well…we all expected more, but to those that are not “new to the MMA thing” we know that anything can happen once you step into the Octagon…but to say that Cro Cop sux shows you don’t have a clue about MMA.

He’s accomplished more than any stand up fighter in MMA…and even after this lost people will still respect his stand up game.

Here it comes. If it wasn’t for that “lucky” kick I am sure Cro Cop was mere seconds away from decapitating him. Blah blah blah.

Cro Cop lost. Badly. He was outclassed on the ground and he was beat standing which is supposed to be his own game.

Maybe this guy was something once or maybe he ran into an unknown but top heavyweight tonight. All I know is he was over hyped and lost badly.

I am headed off to bed. I cannot wait to read all the fanboys excuses tomorrow.

I have seen a few of his fights. He hits hard but he is not well rounded.

Zap wins.

Year of the Upset continues

The sport has evolved to the point that most upper level fighters have the skills to exploit any opening.

There is always a hierarchy, an order. Crocop, Fedor, Nog–these guys don’t lose to guys like Gonzaga. It’s come to the point that underdog is borderline meaningless.

Is this good or bad for the sport and its fans? Chaos is interesting, but can you market chaos? Is chaotic action really a skill sport? These questions will continue to arise should the sport continue in this path.

I realize this is the internet, home of extreme bravado, but the threadstarter is really exposing his knowledge of the sport, and general intelligence.

It looked like his defense on the ground was alright, but he couldn’t get out, and after being on the ground for most of round 1, there wasn’t much time to show anything else before he got KTFO.

That side kick alone that got caught put a couple guys out.

I guess the best way to see how good he is would be to check out a whole bunch of his fights.

Rich Franklin looked unstoppable in some fights, then looked terrible from the beginning of the Silva fight.

Couture made Silvia look like terrible recently, but he beat enough guys to be the champ in his weight class.

Well I am a fan of Cro Cop, but I wasn’t expecting him to win this fight. His ground game is weak that is very well known and I thought that was where he was going to lose, and when he started eating those elbows I thought that was it.

I was really surprised to see them stood up when Gonzalas(I know i screwed up his name sorry) was still busy, especially when you see some fights where they get into guard and you see one punch thrown every 30 seconds and they leave them down. Now it would be nice if they always stood them up that fast but I don’t think that will happen. But that kick was great, it came from nowhere and just dropped cro cop. Cro Cop fough like shit there is no doubt about it, he has had much better performances but tonight it wasnt there. The only good thing he did was that one body kick.

But I think tonight we saw the new heavy weight champion, it will be a good fight when he faces randy, but I think with his size and how quick he is, it will be a win for him. A great fight either way.

He’s not expressing knowledge…just extreme bravado. He’s not interested in MMA.

I don’t think Cro Cop sucks so much as Gonzaga has improved a lot and is much better than a lot of people realised.

It wasn’t just the high kick, he dominated the entire round, and got Mirko (who is known to have great takedown defence) off his feet with ease.

Gonzaga definitely had the right skill set to beat Cro Cop. Cro Cop’s kicks are his best weapon but Gonzaga made him pay for kicking. He also wasn’t afraid to trade blows. And he dominated on the ground.

You said it best: you’re new to MMA. Do a little research. If you’re basing your opinion of any fighter based on the opinions on this site (or any other), you’re dooming yourself to misinformation. Watch some of the past fights.

Yeah, he got beat. It does happen.

Manbearpig for the win! CroCop’s career cycle continues, building himself up just to fall short in spectacular fashion. I see retirement.

::edit in hopes my tiredness when making original post doesn’t horribly derail topic::

Okay, what I was trying to get at and failing miserably with my original post. Two ways to read the original post:

“Cro Cop Sux… at least in the fight I saw. I haven’t been following this long but from what I heard from you people I was expecting more. He got his ass beat. What gives?”

“Cro Cop Sux… ignore virtually the rest of post and assume there are vague assumptions of those who like Cro Cop’s sexual prefrence

Now the second seems to garner the knee jerk reaction I see in most of the posts. The kind of ‘well if you squint your eyes and tilt your head to the side it doesn’t really look like he lost how dare you mock my hero’ reaction.

The first you can have a bit more of a discussion on. Things like: Don’t judge a guy on just one fight. It wasn’t one of his better matches here check this video on youtube. If you check out this fight (if you can find it) it really showcases him as a fighter and you’ll see why I like him so much. Yadda-yadda-yadda.

I personally would like to see more of a discussion with this. Hopefully with a video link. I personally have no way to keep up with this kind of thing and I’d like to see even a short clip of some or even a decent fight(s).
