I pulled my tricep Saturday playing rugby. It swelled up on Sunday and today. I’ve been icing it and resting. But I need some help with a workout program for it. I’ve been making tremendous strides over the past few months, especially in my triceps and chest, with a strict lifting program and diet.
A physical therapist said full recovery is going to take 6-8 weeks, and even working my back and biceps will hinder recovery. I don’t want to lose the progress I’ve gained. Any help would be much appreciated.
Sorry to say, there is not much you can do. The best thing is to wait it out and heal correctly. If you have truly messed the muscle up, and it sounds like you have, then attempting to work it will merely aggravate the injury and prevent you from healing correctly. Yes, having to stop working out bites, but it is better to take a six week break from upper-body lifts than to have a permanent injury.

what about doing fly’s if I completely stabilize it?[/quote]
Flyes still put stress on your tricep. Just think of it this way:you now have a perfect opportunity to concentrate on your legs and get thighs of wonder.

You’re still using the tricep to stabalize the elbow joint when doing fly’s. Just bite the bullet and take some time off. Sometimes a little time off can do wonders even when you aren’t hurt.
