Training with an Ear Infection

I don’t get very sick often at all so I don’t have much experience at all training while sick. But I got an ear infection a few days ago and I just got prescribed bactrim for a week.

From searching threads here, it seems that training while on antibiotics is fine.

However, would training increase the time it takes for me to recover from the infection and maybe drag it out past my prescription? That would kinda suck…

I’m also a bit worried that the head pressure from training would be dangerous to my ear.

I’ve already taken yesterday off because of this and I REALLY want to be training right now…

Thanks for your help!

Reading posts like this after royally fucking up my back make me want to cry.

You have an infection? Train once and see how it feels. If the head pressure feels bad at a low weight, stop and do a different exercise.

I’m not a doctor but I would assume the answers all depend on a) what type of infection you have, b) how bad do you have it. If you can’t get out of bed, don’t train. If you feel well enough to train, then train.

I for one like training when I feel shitty (but just good enough to get to the gym), I usually feel a lot better after leaving. The first exercise might be rough though.

So play it by ear. (pun intended) Good. Thanks.

just recovered from an ear infection coupled with a flu. if you have fever, dont train. make sure you rest and eat/drink alot so you wont lose weight.

peresonally i got back to training while on antibiotics but with no fever. had hearing loss in the infected ear that lasted about 2 weeks. strength took a beating (lost about 30 pounds on my dead and squat), but i got it back after about 2-3 weeks of training.

hope all goes well for you, just take it easy.

thanks man. glad you got your strength back that fast!
