I’ve been stuck with a case of acute bronchitis for the past week or so (just found the time from work to get some Biaxin from the doctor) and want to know if it would be ok to train despite my hacking coughing attacks…
I’m debating whether to stress my body or give it some serious down time to just get better.
What is the general Testosterone concensus on training through illness ?
I remember a post a while back that said if the illness is above your neck it’s ok but this is gonna compromise my cardio if i push it on the treadmill or go heavy on the lifts.
What is your guys/ladies’ opinion on this ?
btw the coughing attacks are subsiding somewhat but I still sound like a great seal during mating season.
Training taxes the immune system, as does illness. Two assaults on the immune system at the same time is a recipe for an overtraining type of crash and burn…and you could become out of training commission for even longer. Bad idea. Because the bronchial illness is utilizing the immune response, there is not enough room for training recovery as well…one or the other or both will suffer. Recuperate from the Bronchitis first, then get back to training. While staying home ill, pay extra careful attention to your diet, micronutrients and fluid requirements…get your optimal nutrition and drink a lot of fluids.
jaybee, since you’re taking Biaxin, which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic (which means it kills a “broad” array of buggies), you need to start supplementing with a GOOD probiotic. The antibiotic is killing off the good bacteria in your gut, along with the bad ones that are making you sick.
It’s a good idea to link the two in your mind “antibiotic and probiotic.”
Hope you’re feeling better and back in the gym in short order.
