Meat, you just made my 645 look worthless! BTW thanks for your help getting me through my injury…I seriously wouldn’t have believed that i could come back stronger if you hadn’t talked with me man…Really do appreciate that.[/quote]

645 is never worthless. You two are some strong mofos.

hit a 545 deadlift today, felt good to get those quarters on there after spending a long time stuck at 495. I had planned on doing my first meet on the 26th but it turns out I will be out of town so ill just have to wait for the next one- oh well, just more time to get stronger. Got a 355 bench pr last week also, will be shooting for 365 tomorrow and it will be the last bench day before I leave on the 8th.

Good luck with your push/pull meet, Meat. You gave me some really helpful advice awhile back when I had some bicep tendonitis issues, so thanks for that. Your vids are always great motivation.

uhhhh yeah… worthless??? i think not. you will be pull’n 700 in no time. i wish i could still pull sumo but my adductor won’t allow it anymore. i had to make the switch to conventional.

no problem hoss. it’s a pleasure.

great pull’n and thanks for the kind words. i’m glad i’m able to help. it makes up for the douchebags i deal with:)

This was last Wed. Depth might be a bit high, it’s definitely close and the camera angle doesn’t help.

Came up when the spotter said to, ended up bein a bit high (appears so from this angle). Still, most weight I have ever even had on my back.

good squat you gear whore.

couple things- first depth looked okay. it was hard to tell though with the craaaazzzzzyyyy pants and weightlifting gloves in the way.

-if you can, you should really start squatting facing away from the mirror. you need to learn to feel your squat without seeing yourself squat.

-you are in a cage, there’s really no need for the spotter. if you miss the lift, just put it on down on the pins. i couldn’t stand it having someone right behind me with their hands on me. i only use a spotter if the weight is so heavy that i will need help walking it back in.

just my opinion though.

look’n strong.

I know I’m not one to give advice but, according the “You think you can squat?” series, Wenning suggests that when you initially put the weight on your back to get in squat position. In the video it looks like you are staggered. Nice lift though!

Meat, thanks for the insight. You’re right about not facing the mirror. I’ve been deadlifting facing away lately and I need to for squatting as I tend to look at myself in the mirror instead of up. I guess I’m just used to having a spotter for the heavy stuff. I did 525 rev band squat last night and failed on 545 and I’m glad I had the spot just because I would of missed the hooks had I not (had to have spotter get me past sticking point a few inches out of the hole).

Drex, I definitely wish I could use a mono or something because my walkout lately has sucked. I definitely have been having issues getting into position.

575 raw pull. This has eluded me for a long time, so was really pumped.

good pull hoss. hitting PR’s are a beautiful thing.

i’m love’n all my new toys. i absolutely love the cambered bar squat. for me, when i get down to the bottom it feels just like the initial pull on a conventional dead. i find it hard squatting down but the ascent is a piece of cake. last week i worked up to 510lbs. tonight i felt strong and took it up to 600lbs with a fairly long pause.

the only drawback is the issue with not being able to use the safety pins. i guess as the weight gets heavier we will just rely on a back spotter. if anyone has used one and has some other ideas for safety, please let me know.

Disclaimer, I have not used one of those bars - what about chains suspended from the top of the rack, like you see on mono lifts?

one thing I learned, keep hands on the vertical part, not the horizontal part, so if you hit the rack you hand ain’t crushed

well i bridged the shit out of it but i got that 365 bench, i didnt realize how bad i was doing it until i saw the video. I messed around with foot position and got a few triples with 315 and 405 rev band that looked much better. hopefully both vids work

405x3 deadlift, feels good to actually start making progress on these

2 PR’s both at my first meet

450 Squat
625 Deadlift

i’m slowly crawling up out of the depths of BOF status. I competed at the SPF Brute Strength Gym meet yesterday. I’ve been cutting weight slowly over the past few months. I was really hoping to get into the 242 class but i leveled out at 250. I guess i could have cut water and made it to 242 but that’s not something i wanted to do. as a result, i weighed in at 250. this is 10lbs lighter than any meet i’ve done and 20lbs lighter than my typical walking around weight.

I was a little concerned that the weight drop would affect my bench. I also hadn’t taken a max attempt on bench at all during our last training cycle. the weight loss has really helped my deadlift though. i had to switch to conventional after a nagging adductor injury. In the past i wasn’t able to get into the starting position for convention becuase of my big ol’ gut and short ass arms. now at 250, it’s very comfortable. since i just started pulling conventional i really had no idea what i would end up with at this meet. i decided to start our pretty conservative on both bench and dead.

my bench opener went horribly. it should have been a walk in the park but my training partner forgot to get out of the way of the head judge. it through me off and i ended up losing the bar some causing it to dip and result in a NO LIFT. that really messed with my head but luckily i was able to shrug it off and hit my next two attempts. unfortunatley i left some weight on the bench. here are the attempts.

bench attempts-

going into the deads i opened with a very conservative 600…felt like speed weight. hit my second and third easily. definitley left some on the platform.

deadlift attempts-

finished with a 1140 push pull total at 250. we are going to do one more push pull in a couple of months where i’m hoping to go 500 on bench and 700 on deads for a 1200 total. after that should i dare say a full meet???

725lb reverse band squat, single ply briefs.
