Think You Are Big But Just Fat

Just wanted to say that I was writing concerning LISS, not something HIIT-style. Intuitively at least, HIIT seems like it makes a lot more sense for natural lifters on a cut (isn’t Stu an advocate of this?).

I get what you are saying. And George Farah even shares similar ideals, although he is assisted as fuck. haha

But anyways in a broscience kind of way it does make a lot of sense that a bit of cardio can help you partition calories better.

I really do not want to mess this up but I probably will. Just recently dabbling with understanding this kind of stuff.

when you do a lot of endurance stuff you increase AMPk which inhibits mtor, mtor signals protein synthesis. Although when consuming a surplus of calories and paying attention to your nutrition around your workouts I suppose this can be avoided atleast to a smaller scale and would be much more of a worry on a cut rather than on a bulk.

But then again there are a few people here doing either cardio 7 days a week or multiple hours of cardio a day and still maintaining muscle and not all of them are assisted.

Nice to see some more geordies on here.

I’m almost positive that I think I’m big, but in reality I’m just fat lol. I would like to recomp some, but not cut. I’ve developed a literal phobia of weighing less than 200lbs.

BTW thanks to you guys posting some helpful tips on diet and cardio and such in the thread!

I eat a ton of veggies, but I love them so I haven’t really gotten bored with them. Nowadays though I eat many the 5% ones (really low carb).

I honestly haven’t done a ton of ab work in the past. When I did, I’d just throw in some fallouts or front squat hold type stuff.

Wow…thats the ballsiest, most commendable statement on a bodybuilder forum. Respect.
Honesty is usually far and few between, especially on the internet. Anyway, this thread is great a real eye opener
To those people that throw out audacious numbers and percentages and come up short. Now I’m really watching myself, not get caught up in numbers, but the end result.

which i dont get, on a bodybuilding forum it should not be some ballsy thing to simply admit that you use.

How was your experience with Shelby?

I am down 22lbs I look a lot smaller but probably need to lose another 22lbs lol or more before it starts to look ripped…

Its awful :S Feels like you work all your life to get big then all of a sudden you are just fat lol

Oh no
http://asp.elitefts.net/qa/training-logs.asp?qid=182739

left, 225, right 170-175.

was a miserable experience, but it was my own fault for being so out of shape.

miserable, but it got it done, Shelby killed me, and im happier than ever before that i worked with him… can’t even tell you how happy.

4 years to get that fat… 13 weeks to lose it, thanks to him. Now im working with him in the offseason for 52 weeks and loving every second of it

guy is an incredible asset
Exactly. It’s a far more complicated thing. Especially when people abuse the term 101% natty when it most cases it’s not true. thats where the respect is.

Would love to hear Stu, BlueCollar, or any other more experienced person’s opinion, particularly if they’ve tried both. I’ve honestly never bulked without cardio. I’m 210 right now and want to hit 225, planning on doing cardio througout for better or worse.
I know you think I’m small, weak, and ghey but I did have great success during my contest prep doing almost nothing but HIIT training of various sorts (Prowler pushing/pulling, prowler sprints, metabolic work like med ball throwing/jumping/oly lifting)

As far as I can tell, and my pictures bear this out, I ended up gaining a bit of mass in my shoulders and kept or gained strength throughout my prep, so it worked for me like gang busters.

The only caveat I would say is that I would advise some form of workout drink during the exercise bouts as I think this helps avoid catabolism and promote anabolism.

So you think like doing 15minutes of SS cardio 3-4 weeks when bulking would be more damage than help when bulking?

At 5’8 and 250lbs with 19 inch arms I thought I was the man, ha little did I know my bf was around or over 30%.

I thought I would be shredded at 210…

here I am at 204 and I barely have a 4 pack and sub 18 inch arms.

I’m going to end up having a 9-10% look by the end of this and I could very well be under 190 and closer to 180.
I am 5’8" and weighed 168.8 this morning at 10% BF…just as an idea. Maybe I calipered myself too high but I doubt it.
