Think You Are Big But Just Fat

i actually started training (read training and dieting with intent) for a girl. i dropped from 255lbs down to 190 in about 6 months with little education and a lot of cardio. Anyways it worked because we are married now. Although she didn’t care actually coz she started talking to me when i was 255 - it was only in my mind that a smoking hot girl wouldn’t be interested in me coz i was a fat ass. She’s still here now and im 255 again lol. Although my body comp is a lot different

did not read all of the above two post but i got the essence of them.

to be honest i am going to backtrack abit.

it is not so much you as an individual poster.

it is more the case of there being a high number of younger underdeveloped guys here complaining.

that critical mass of people is dragging the place down imo.

to be a bit clearer my gripe is that all of these guys have been training for the best part of 5 minutes in comparison to someone like X. It’s not so much you or others are skinny and can’t have an opinion, it’s that in the real world in an actual gym i fucking guarantee you would shut your mouths and LISTEN if a guy like X was in the gym discussing training.

that is because you would be grateful for any insight.

again, i have trained in places with some supremely built motherfuckers and if i can get a 2 minute chat between sets i consider it valuable.

here you have a guy willing to help out for free over the course of a decade and the majority responses from the juniors is why dont you lose 20lbs not how did you build 80lbs of muscle.

this place should be invaluable to you guys. how you instead choose to bitch and moan and tell the guy to leave the site or stop posting etc is baffling. i first found this site many years ago and it didnt even enter my head to post never mind post and bitch. i just read and learned from guys with a ton of experience who again were doing this on their own time and for completely free. i was grateful.

FACK, i go to work for 12 hours and this thread went from great to shit.

i hope my last response did not start this.

look, i doubt there are many people on this site who got as big ans strong as me when i was at my biggest and strongest.

sure i was fat, but you do not hit 650 plus squat and deadlifts, 500 front squats, 400 jerks, 440 cleans, throw a 16lb shot over 60 feet, a 22lb hammer over 90 feet, without having some muscle too.

my point was not to belittle anybody who wants to be big as hell and impressive.

my point is i have “been there and done that”

now it is fun to have strangers compliment me on my arms when out wearing a short sleeve shirt,

i like it when my wife runs her nails across my abds (yes fuckers, i have visible abds ;p ) when i am "on top-o-her,

i am too beat the fuck up to be strong and athletic anymore, i like looking (to me) a little better.

hey, and you know who you are, if you are already sure you are super duper fucking grade A awesome man-specimen, then more power to you…i am happy for you.

matty, you are fucking huge, DD, you are looking great.

This has to be the ONLY place where people are degrading how I look. I had a woman run up to me in a Fiesta shopping store yesterday asking me if I was a personal trainer. I wasn’t wearing a tank top. Only here do they try this hard to insult the progress I’ve made…and I agree, this shit does not happen in real life.

As far as the topic, no one here is telling anyone to become obese. I am not obese. I am not fat. Throwing up pictures you think are funny also can warp the information being given. Newbs will think that is actually what someone is writing.

There is no good use of this attitude lately…other than making really small dudes feel better.

Steely D’s posts n this thread have been great.

Pathetic. I thought Zraw’s thread served some purpose.

Steroid use also causes hypertension and hypertrophy of cardiac muscle. GH use instigates it further.

The reality is, bodybuilding isn’t exactly about all out “health nuts”. It never has been.

Very true. The pendulum has certainly shifted from when I first got here and people only ever got shat on for making minimal gains/spinning wheels.
yolo84 wrote:
Someone posts here who is 250 and massive, we should all be grateful for any insight he might have. I can think of NO ONE who regularly posts in the BB forum who are so heavily built. He is a major asset.
Seriously. And X’s contributions in off-topic threads about higher education, discipline/achievement and ‘big picture’ perspectives are at least as valuable (imo). Not everyone can achieve professional school training and how few of those even bother to share their insights? No shit his writing style is (often) confrontational/condescending but since when exactly did ‘tone/style of delivery’ begin to obscure ‘overall message/quality of content’??

Makes me miss guys like RJ and CaliLaw all over again, now those were two unabashed forum assholes and yet also accomplished professionals who also shared tons of real-life wisdom here (along with that love of training we all got)
SteelyD wrote:
I can never put myself into that mindset to tear down people making serious progress, fat and all.
If I may steal one of BlueCollarTr8n’s responses: “Amen!”
dunno how to reduce to above properly -

I strongly agree with your points on RJ and CaliLaw, maybe not those specific individuals but around 2004-2006 the overall attitude of this forum was really really fucking great it was genuine “hardcore” training. I know the whole “hardcore” things sounds super gay/tap out tshirt-esque but it’s just the simplest term to use.

it is a shame that that is not really the case anymore when it could be considering there are still some great members here.
That hardcore shit created a family here. I still get calls from Rainjack from time to time. Goldberg was great too…but that has all changed now to get tons of posts from dudes who ONLY come here to complain about how other people type.

It is sad…but I don’t think it will last. Too many people are now getting tired of it…and many more are paying way too much attention for the lies to stick…like “gun threats” or whatever nonsense they are claiming lately.

Eventually people will get tired of every thread turning into useless info and dribble from people who aren’t even that built.

If you guys want that to return, quit cheering on the idiots. This is not the off topic section.

I didn’t say that the picture represented th “full house” look. It is a funny picture and if you know whatnot is from and get the joke you would understand. It was in no way posted to represent full house.

I know you are a relatively new poster here (honestly not trying to insult you) but you have to see that no one is “shitting on” anyone in this thread “for gaining 40lbs and looking jacked but soft…”

It seems obvious to me, correct me if I am wrong WannaBeBig, that you are mostly referring to Mr X. People disagree, myself included, with him because of his attitude/demeanor/posting style.

Does that make sense WBB?
actually lol, ive been here since 2009 or something on my old account, same name, just different numbers.

anyway lets end it here, cause you seem like a nice guy and i have no personal beef with you so it would be pointless to keep arguing about the “full house” look and who looks like they dont workout blah blah.
I didn’t tell him to ‘lose weight’ for the sake of losing weight, like he’s going to drop dead any moment or something. I specifically said he wasn’t fat and he looked impressive. The gym I go to in the summer and winter have a few competing BB’ers that talk to me, and I say the same things to them, like “Yeah man once you cut up a bit your arms will really pop” or stuff like that.

They hand out advice to me and help me with input on my routine and diet, and never has anyone been insulted. This is bodybuilding, someone suggesting a way to improve your aesthetics shouldn’t be seen as an insult or anything negative (if delivered in a respectable way of course). Even X said my opinion was valid. I was just trying to have a discussion with the dude.

And that’s fine, but you basically said I have no room to talk to X (apparently in any manner, whether I’m polite or not) because of my physique. So I don’t get how what I look like only selectively matters. It’s strange to me that you say I have no room to talk, though I never insulted anyone AND have an avi to at least show how much progress I have or have not made. Yet you, who calls me a ‘toothpick’ (which I guess you did just to be a dick?) and has no pictures up, do?
I think it’s funny when people talk about these hardcore gyms but never seem to mention any names.

Here’s my story: During breaks from college I used to train at Fitness Factory in Louisville, and I still go there occasionally when visiting my parents. The gym was started by Porter Cottrell, and currently it sees the likes of Tricky Jackson and at least one other IFBB pro. In my time there I’ve seen countless “huge guys,” and the overwhelming majority of them are very lean year round.

Of the guys who rocked the “full house” look, at least 2 of the 3 I can think of off the top of my head benched 495 for reps while I was in the gym to attest to the feat; the other one I’ve seen playing with 315 on occasion.

But the point is, these mythical pros who are fat in the offseason don’t exist in the typical hardcore gym I have experience with, and the guys who were fat were far stronger than anyone on this website.

Great post. I was once going to say something similar: every time I go to Bev’s Powerhouse (East Coast Mecca) I haven’t seen one pro looking fat… ever! Same goes for when I used to to the Colosseum. Not once did I see Desmond Miller looking chubby.

Not one natural has built 80 pounds of muscle.

Most big guys don’t have much insight, nor is there much insight to provide once someone learns about decent programming, after which point, it’s mostly up to the individual.

Open your eyes: you’ll see in REAL LIFE people have received and given far worse treatment than telling someone they’re carrying a bit too much fat! I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Haven’t you?

Telling someone, “Bro, you gotta trim down,” or “Imagine what you’ll look like when you shed all that fat? You’ll look great” are not horrible things to say. I’ve heard far worse.

guys…guys…i thought we established that the full house wasnt “fat”. maybe soft by bodybuilding standards. but to a normal weekend warrior in the gym they look like scary gorillas.

i dont know why the word “fat” keeps getting brought up like full house means rocking a 46" waist and a pair of C cups.

hey brick,

what do you think is a good rate of weight gain for a natty in the off season? im curious of your opinion on this topic, im trying to stick to around 2 lbs a month personally.

if you were eating “enough calories”, you wouldnt be getting fat
