This is funny. Like what else is a better acceptable answer? I lift for other dudes to be jealous. No wait, I lift for myself because I love challenging myself(you mean staring in the mirror).

If your main reason is aesthetics, you are lifting to look better for yourself and others. All others. Otherwise you would powerlift. Or crossfit. …Or not lift.
I lift for a lot of reasons, none of them have anything to do with girls at this point.

Lifting for chicks is gay? Ironic.

Lol.
LOL. I am guessing most of us started for that reason.

Some people just like telling others how “insecure” they supposedly are…which is oddly very insecure.
I’m not calling anyone in particular insecure. If the shoe doesn’t fit, then just don’t wear it. You have to decide that for yourself.

I started lifting for girls, too. I’d hope most people outgrow that, especially on a bodybuilding forum.

It was really just a sidebar…it wasn’t the main point of why I lift weights, again it was just to illustrate that I am going for the “fat full house” look and my wife likes it as well.
Last I remember, you were/are more of a strength oriented athlete anyway right? Still doing PL Meets? Have you hit a paused 405 yet? (Haven’t checked your log in forever)

Yeah dude WTF? your too good for my log? lol

Yeah I finally hit both the 400 and a 510 DL at a meet…did three in one year, cutting it down to twice a year now, next one is in June…hoping for 450 and 550 respectively…

Truth be told however, while strength is my number one goal, I do care how I look

Damn man, that’s awesome! Congrats on the milestones.

Everyone cares how they look, some are just less vocal or honest about it lol.

I’ll have to come check in on your log.

Thanks brother!

Marzouk, great progress. I’d get to cutting. Let me be honest: if I were you, I’d do it in a rather drastic way (provided you’re injury-free).

But since I’m not you: there’s nothing wrong with a more graceful approach by cleaning up your diet without lowering calories, as as Professor X pointed out earlier in the thread. Should that already contribute to fat loss without impacting your muscle mass and performance. keep at it.
The next step would have me increase my work volume, both in and outside of the gym - DoubleDuce gave a thorough description about his implementation of this aspect.
After having taken care of all this stuff, you could finally focus on lowering calories.

Also, I don’t see a problem with having to lose (some) muscle during a cut. Gaining it back isn’t all that hard, especially doing so from a much leaner base (=> hormones and better lifestyle habits, usually).
Pretty injury free at the moment, guna start this coming wednesday following some of the guidlines that walkaway laid out!

You are in beast status. Excellent work brother. Personally, I think you’re in the sweet spot to do whatever you want. You still have a lot of room to keep growing, but you’ve also packed on a lot of mass that you’ll retain after a cut.

That’s a great spot to be in versus “too small” or “too fat”, both of which only you can define for you.

Your hard work has paid off.

I am duly impressed.
Thanks for the compliment, hopefully i won’t screw it up too much! Cheers big guy!

Doesn’t even look like they work out? Come on bro, you don’t even believe that.
it doesnt matter where the picture is from. this is not a direct attack on you personally, but it seems everyone on this forum associates bulking and full house mode as being a fat fuck that no women want and every “real” bodybuilder looks down upon.

i used to workout in a gym full of NPC and IFBB pros, and up and coming naturals as well. and no matter what condition people were in be it off season or pre contest, nobody laughed at the guys who were in full on bulking mode and rocking a big gut and equally as large arms. only on this forum do they get shit on for gaining 40lbs and looking jacked but soft…

there are a lot of health problems that come with gaining too much weight in the offseason.

for example, hypertension, which leads to left ventricular hypertrophy… among others.

but i digress

But really… do you know what the picture is from?

I didn’t say that the picture represented th “full house” look. It is a funny picture and if you know whatnot is from and get the joke you would understand. It was in no way posted to represent full house.

I know you are a relatively new poster here (honestly not trying to insult you) but you have to see that no one is “shitting on” anyone in this thread “for gaining 40lbs and looking jacked but soft…”

It seems obvious to me, correct me if I am wrong WannaBeBig, that you are mostly referring to Mr X. People disagree, myself included, with him because of his attitude/demeanor/posting style.

Does that make sense WBB?

This is a very good point.

I have worked out at two famous gyms one more focussed on powerlifting and one on BB.

AT NO POINT did this shit cross anyone’s mind or was ever said. Instead people would honestly be looking around with the expression of holy fuck look at the size of that dude.

The ridiculous thing is that the recent pics of X are not even remotely of a fat guy.

At the BB gym alot of guys would train shirtless, there were a few dude without question with more BF than X who were absolutely jacked as fuck and some of the shit posted here is just so laughable. No one would think or say this stuff in real life.

Some of the loudest mouths here are of skinny fat dweebs who are barely even deadlifting in the 300s.

There is another guy here writing huge ass posts about how X should lose a few pounds and he himself looks like a fucking tooth pick! is this real life?

It is fucked up and WRONG that they are talking so much shit constantly.

It is a shame that they are being validated by some folks who are in shape and thus are getting the confidence to shout their mouths off more and more.

Someone posts here who is 250 and massive, we should all be grateful for any insight he might have. I can think of NO ONE who regularly posts in the BB forum who are so heavily built. He is a major asset.

One of the key points there is ‘off-season’ and ‘pre-contest.’ People who are actually following contest cycles and choose to bulk a little more from their contest weight is something I haven’t seen vehemently criticized around here. People who have decade+ long off-seasons on the other hand…

Edit: have = haven’t, pretty key typo.
red04 wrote:

How does someone on a decade+ long off-season affect your training?

By the amount of posts dedicated to tearing down others it would seem like it somehow affects others ability to put on muscle?

I can never put myself into that mindset to tear down people making serious progress, fat and all.

When people identify themselves as BBers despite being in ‘off-season’ for their entire training career, it becomes a little iffy. You train for strength, that’s a different ballgame where your ‘physique goals’ while present in some form are secondary to strength goals.

Also, scientifically it does effect your ability to put on muscle… we’ve covered this before.

Also x2, I never said it affected my training. I was responding to a post in a discussion, where in he talked about IFBB and NPC pros and how nobody really comments on their offseason condition. FWIW I highly doubt those pros(who are using, which affects ability to maintain muscle mass in a dieting process) are approaching high teens/low 20s bodyfat percentages. We’ve had threads dedicated to showing them in offseason condition, and most still have very visible abs, delt saparation, etc.

I don’t see why you are allowed to throw out that ‘looking good naked’ is an excuse for skinny people(yes many do legitimately hide behind the excuse), but when the other side essentially argues the opposite(‘I’m just bulking to build the most mass… for 20 years’) it’s a monumental insult. There are people who hide behind both.

Very true. The pendulum has certainly shifted from when I first got here and people only ever got shat on for making minimal gains/spinning wheels.

Seriously. And X’s contributions in off-topic threads about higher education, discipline/achievement and ‘big picture’ perspectives are at least as valuable (imo). Not everyone can achieve professional school training and how few of those even bother to share their insights? No shit his writing style is (often) confrontational/condescending but since when exactly did ‘tone/style of delivery’ begin to obscure ‘overall message/quality of content’??

Makes me miss guys like RJ and CaliLaw all over again, now those were two unabashed forum assholes and yet also accomplished professionals who also shared tons of real-life wisdom here (along with that love of training we all got)

dunno how to reduce to above properly -

I strongly agree with your points on RJ and CaliLaw, maybe not those specific individuals but around 2004-2006 the overall attitude of this forum was really really fucking great it was genuine “hardcore” training. I know the whole “hardcore” things sounds super gay/tap out tshirt-esque but it’s just the simplest term to use.

it is a shame that that is not really the case anymore when it could be considering there are still some great members here.

Let me get this straight. You’re criticizing Spidey on his physique (which is nothing to be ashamed of IMO) on the logic that his progress is not worthy of calling out PX. Yet you then turn around and say that physique development has nothing to do with the content they post.

Class.

I didn’t tell him to ‘lose weight’ for the sake of losing weight, like he’s going to drop dead any moment or something. I specifically said he wasn’t fat and he looked impressive. The gym I go to in the summer and winter have a few competing BB’ers that talk to me, and I say the same things to them, like “Yeah man once you cut up a bit your arms will really pop” or stuff like that.

They hand out advice to me and help me with input on my routine and diet, and never has anyone been insulted. This is bodybuilding, someone suggesting a way to improve your aesthetics shouldn’t be seen as an insult or anything negative (if delivered in a respectable way of course). Even X said my opinion was valid. I was just trying to have a discussion with the dude.

And that’s fine, but you basically said I have no room to talk to X (apparently in any manner, whether I’m polite or not) because of my physique. So I don’t get how what I look like only selectively matters. It’s strange to me that you say I have no room to talk, though I never insulted anyone AND have an avi to at least show how much progress I have or have not made. Yet you, who calls me a ‘toothpick’ (which I guess you did just to be a dick?) and has no pictures up, do?
