The Quest to Be Strong and Athletic

Lifting has been getting better. I will post all my lifting for the week later today.
About two weeks ago my chiro asked me if I had ever had a sleep study done. He’s a pretty big guy andhe had just got one done he had been told if you have over a 17 inch neck you pretty much have a sleep disorder. He has been on a cpap (breathing machine) and said it has made a world of difference. So me and my 21 inch neck shedualed a sleep study. Two weeks ago i got my results back. The doctor walked into the room and stated I have no idea how you function so well and how you are even alive for that matter lol
basically I slept for 8 hours but I never went into a deep sleep.

We talked about current evens and how I was bouncing at a club on the week-ends over the summer and fall. He was not surprised that I hit all wall in novemeber and moved half way accroos the country then back in a matter of days. He also stated that when I was compeating in powerlifting the stress on my body must have been massive. Being sleep deprived for long perionds of time can effect thinking, dealing with stress ect.

I bought a cpap brething machine and just finished my second night of sleep I feel amazing. I made it through an entire day yest with out coffee or energy drinks. I had no idea how bad I felt because that is all I knew. It is amazing what the body can handle.

I am really excited to see what will happen now that I am getting good deep sleep. Zombie Jim did pretty well … It will be fun to se what a well rested Jim can do.

Hopefully this will encourage some of you guys to go get a sleep study done. Life is too short to be a zombie

Jim

so I love pit bulls. So much that i take pits in the other people don’t want. I bought i fixer upper house just for the dogs. So my biggest pit bugsy is a wee bit hyper. so i bought the thing called the springer to attach to my bike so i could run him more

it was working great until he decided to attack the front tire lol

Sleep deprivation and how it affects your life
How do you know if youâ??re getting the sleep you need? Sleep deprivation occurs when you are not sleeping the right amount for your individual needs. Sometimes sleep deprivation is short term, like a college student pulling an all nighter. Chronic sleep deprivation often occurs in professions who work long hours, caregivers with multiple responsibilities, a concurrent sleep disorder or another disease that interferes with sleep. If you are falling asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow, regularly need an alarm clock to wake up, or feel the need for frequent naps during the day, it is very likely you are sleep deprived.

Other signs you may be suffering from sleep deprivation include::

difficulty waking up in the morning
poor performance in school, on the job, or in sports
increased clumsiness
difficulty making decisions
falling asleep during work or class
feeling especially moody or irritated
Sleep deprivation can be dangerous not only to you but others, since it affects motor skills like driving. Chronic sleep deprivation is also thought to cause long term changes to the body, which contribute to increased risk for obesity, diabetes and heart disease.

Saw your post about the sleep study in t-cell alpha , I can’t post there, but wanted to let you know of another option. Instead of the machine you are uesing which in my opinion will just allow the throat muscles to get weaker and is inconvienient, you can simply strengthen the throat muscles through exercise to cure snoring/ sleep apnea digeridoo playing is said to work as well.

also google snoring digeridoo. (spelled wrong probably you know that australian instrument, that thing)

Btw super impressive log.

i have always been a big believer in mobility work. after all if you body doesn’t work right or move right how can you expect to do the lifts right.

Some of my friends went to mike roberstons place up in indy a while back … what amazed me from there trip was the importance of ankle mobility.

Especally now that i am helping consult at a crosfit gym it is amazing how a few simple mobility exercises done consistantly can make such a huge difference

Jim

Thanks for saying hi. It is good to be back. It is nice to know that there is a simple logical explaination as to why one of the most easy going level headed guys there is turned his entire life upside down in the past few months …

i feel better than i ever have and it has been less than a week it is amazing what a couple good nights of sleep can do when you haven’t had any in years

recovering from being burned out and hitting a wall is much easier than recovering from a heart attack lol

thank god for my chiro telling my to get a sleep study

Yet another. Great hip mobilty

Man everyday keeps getting better and better. Thank God for my chrio and thank God for the sleep study and my new best friend the cpap machine. I am so greatful to have a new lease on life … Sorry to beat this to death but just a week ago and for the (as far as I could remember felt aweful) with the worst of it being end of oct through Jan … I felt like trash … Now after a week of
good sleep I feel amazing !!! I haven’t had a cup of coffee or ephedra tab all week that is truely amazing I lived on those before. I don’t even want to guess what would have happened if I wouldn’t have taken the sleep study … Prob in a ditch somewhere …
Funny thing is I didn’t know I felt that bad I knew something was wrong but I had nothing to compare it too because I had been without sleep for so long.

Onto lifting.
