Building a Little Credibility

I know everyone on here says “Pics or it didn’t happen” so I’ll try to upload some vids as I can.

I was a blob welded to a desk three years ago and decided to take control and turn it around. Now I’m training somewhere in between body building and powerlifting, constantly trying to improve, and never go backwards.

I’m also trying to find which group on T Muscle I fit in most with. Since I’m 37 I hope you won’t mind me posting this here. My son was kind enough to film this first clip hopefully I attached it to the thread correctly. This is me DLing 500. This was an important weight for me to conquer. Now on to 600…

Rock and Roll. You have come to the right place and are gonna fit right in. Welcome aboard.

Thanks man. BTW an old truck tire and a carbide hack saw blade is all you need to build a great little dead lift pit that’ll really save the garage floor. I’ll see about posting some bench and OHP vids soon.

Give us some stats, man, you can just throw a vid up and lead us on like that? How often do you shower? Do you still think Farah in the red swim suit poster is the hottest thing ever? what about Phoebe in Fast Times? And what was the first band you saw live, that you will admit too? effen NooBs.

just kidding, welcome aboard. Good work in chainging things around, and pulling a manly weight.

LOL righteous.

OK well here are some stats:

DL 500
Back squat 405
BP 365
OHP 240

These are 1 RMs. PRs well I only tend to PR on deadlifts or Bench, butI’ll see what I can capture on video and post.

BTW I’m 250 lbs at present and have no idea what my BF % is. I could care less.
Whatever extra weight I might be carrying is what will keep me alive when civilization crumbles. Heh.

After reading your above posts, congrats…you fit right in here!!! Welcome, and nice lifts.

Daily, usually. Yes. Top 3 Boob shots of all time (Jamie Lee Curtis in ‘Trading Places’ and Halle Berry in ‘Swordfish’ round out the list). Motley Crue.

First band I saw live would’ve been my parent’s band Eclipse. They actaully tried out several different band names, but that’s the one that stuck. Dad played guitar and did some backup vocals and mom sang. Top 40 stuff. Pretty boring actually. But they taught me to appreciate music, and I got my allowance bumped when at 10 I became their one and only roadie.

One of my favorite concerts (non family) ever was in 08. I took my son to see my all time favorite band RUSH. They blew the roof off the place and took the nails with it. They played for 3 hours. Those guys are in their 50s and they are machines.

Farah was amazingly hot, but then I had a painfull crush on just about anything in a bathing suit back then… well pretty much now to.

Rush rocks. Probably my favorite concert ever was the Rush 30 year reunion tour in 04. I went with a compulsive gambler to the show in Dallas and won close to $1000 betting on the set list (i did’t cheat either). We bet on “first word out of Geddy Lee’s mouth” and I picked “Begin the day.” They started with a 5 song instrumental medley and then rolled into the full version of Spirit of the Radio. I hit like 3-4 “next songs” with odds, the song coming out intermission (Tom Sawyer), and the final encore (Limelight). Good times.

well, everyone has been real nice to the new guy, so someone has to say it:

start doing 5/3/1 or we’ll kill and eat you.

LOL Sweet.

This is something I’ll be doing this summer, but I’ll probably choose an indoor venue this time. I like it LOUD.

They’re going to play Moving Pictures, the whole album. This after I just heard an interview with Lifeson saying he didn’t care if he ever played Tom Sawyer again. Thanks for trotting it out one more time for us guys. For the diehards this album never gets old.

On training : I’m gonna try to get into the gym tonight and capture a solid military press and hopefully have the video posted by the weekend.

What tonight will most likely look like:

OHP - 135 x whatever for a couple sets as a warmup
155 x 5
175 x 5
185 x 2
205 x 1
whatever I can get for a solid single
Depending on the night I train this lift I’ll get 225 sometimes 240.
Finishing sets with 185 usually triples and doubles till I start to feel fatigued. Usually 4-5

Dips - bodyweight x 5-10 for anywhere from 5 to 8 sets. Total reps usually range 50 - 65.

I usually fit in different different Delt Chest or Tri specific exercises to round out the session depending on what feels like it needs the most work.

This is my standard press training template. I rarely train Bench Press directly, because of numerous shoulder issues I’ve had over time. But I will be BPing in the weeks to come. Oddly between heavy OHP and Dips I don’t really lose much if any strength in the bench.

Bench Press routines for me usually start with 185 to warm up, 225 for a few sets of 5, then 275 for a couple of triples, then 315 for a couple of triples and a douce, then go for broke on a solid single. Some nights I can hit 365, most I’ll top out at 345 or 350. I don’t count dead slow grinders even if I still get it. To me it’s too close to a missed lift which I absolutley hate.

Keeping my fingers crossed for that 240 OHP.

Right on. I bought Wendler’s book and am in the process of reading it. I have a stubborn bone. I usually don’t completely adopt ANY training program but rather pull what good I can from it and graft it into what I’m comfortable doing.

I know, I know. I should just drink the kool aid and get over with.

Wendler impresses me I’ve got to say. 5/3/1 has an Occam’s razor training approach that I like.
I’m all about keeping what works and not what doesn’t.

No promises about sticking with 5/3/1, but I’ll give it an honest go.

Recognized!

Oh really?

You mean you know me in the flesh?

PM me bro.

EDIT: Nevermind I’m as dense a brick sometimes. I just got it.

Well I didn’t hit it like I thought I would. Got to 225 and could not get anything more up. So I’m posting this. I’ll try harder next time, and maybe get something good up. Gonna try for 250 next time. We’ll see. Till then this is all I got.

Standing Military Press kills me, which is why I like it so much. When I bench a little too heavy I can still grind through it with a good spot. With the SMP you got nothin and no one. Get it up or rack it and go home. The iron cares not if you have had a bad day. It weighs what it weighs and you had better bring your ‘A’ game.

The Kool Aid’s in the corner

225 looked easy. Nice press.

Thanks I can usually press solid right up to 95% of my 1 RM then I start grindin and creepin. I did get 235 up but it was a mess (looked more like a teeter totter)so I’m not gonna technically count it.

240 would not budge. And to boot I woke up with an extremely sharp pain in my right shoulder which is my weak side. This morning I’m going over some of the stuff in the ‘Mobility for old farts’ thread. I’ll see if I can rehab this shoulder into submission in the next few days.

BTW I love that thread. Some of the tips I had never seen before.
