Since the last Mr. Olympia and the “bubble gut gate” and the arrival of the classic physic competitors, we see more and more bodybuilders doing the vacuum pose.
Despite all that, I do not think everyone is made to use this pose in competition.
I made this remark with Regan Grimes during his first competition in classic physic. For me he does not have the “good shape” of rib cage to use this pose.
I agree that not everyone can pull off the same poses to the same degree as others. It’s usually just a genetic thing, how well their particular structure looks as a whole.
Of course if you’re mentioning bubble guts, there’s only so much you can do to pose a giant mass of meat (whether it’s muscle, enlarged organs, whatever, I’m not opening that can of worms).
I can’t remember if Arash said it at some point or if it was Chris Bumstead…but one of them at one point said that all bodybuilders should be able to do a vacuum pose, but not on stage. I believe the comment was more about abdominal training/control and not aesthetics on stage. I liked this idea…
