I was just wondering how one would go about deciding whether to include this classic pose in their posing routine. Of course assuming one can pull a good vacuum hold, how would you decide whether to go with the flexed abs or just vacuum pose? I’ve been working on it, and feel like I have a decent vacuum hold but i dont know if i like it over just flexing my abs (my abs are ok nothing spectacular).
I just wanted to get some insight on how everybody else feels about this pose, and what you think you need to really be able to pull it off, and for what poses, front double? abs and quads? front lat spread?? I’ll post some pics of me attempting the vacuum shortly, but i do have regular non-vacuum pics in my profile pics.
Rusty Jeffers is the only pro I have seen doing that pose recently. It has fallen out of favor and I doubt the reaction from a crowd in 2010 will be the same as if this were 1976 and Zane was doing it.
In smaller shows, your conditioning is what wins trophies sometimes over size. I would leave this out unless doing this pose somehow accentuates all of your “positive” physical attributes above any other pose.
Thanks for all the input guys, i guess I had a man crush on frank zanes famous vacuum pose. I’m gonna try and get a few pics of my attempt at the vacuum, compared to it flexed in a few hours actually.
Schwarzfahrer: thats actually what i’ve been working on, is “trying” to do a transition through the vacuum to abflex b/c like BONEZ mentioned, I definitely want to show off what i’ve worked hard to get, a decent looking abdominal area. Professor X also made some good points. Definitely appreciate the insights.
I think it looks awesome. Contest is soon aye?? I think it would be alright if like said - you did vacuum to ab/thigh. Always looks good to me. Especially natty comps.
yeah i like the diea of starting with a vacuum and transistioning into the the flexed version…
one of the things that i feel that modern competitors suck at is they don’t transistion from pose to pose very well…arnold made it an art to move from pose to pose…nowadays, guys just do the mandatories on stage basically…
thanks guys…
I actually only been practicing that particular pose for maybe a day, so I think i do have some room for improvement. But i think alot of the improvement that i need is more in holding the pose, transistioning the pose, and also not having to depend on looking at a mirror when doing it.
@ pro-a-gression, yes it is coming soon, 5 weeks away, definitely going to keep practicing it, i LOVE that pose, or more like i love frank zane’s pose of it (still undecided about mine).
@ rocky2, i appreciate it, i’m really not sure yet, if or how i plan to do it, but i do plan on continuing to practice it.
@ D Public, not going to lie, this is my first competition, and right now i do think i fall under that category of sucking at posing… I can do the mandatories, but really need to work on transitioning, and making it look like an art that it is, the way the greats did.
