Reverse Hyper Machine

Thinking about investing in a Reverse Hyper Machine from Elite fitness. I have never used one before and am wondering if I will gain that much benefit over the Glute Ham machine that I already own (and love).

Any thoughts from those who have tried one, or use one regularly?

All productive comments are appreciated.

The reverse hyper isn’t necessarily better than a GHR, it more or less compliments it. I find that the GHR really nails my hamstrings while the reverse hyper hits my lower back better. If i had the money i would definately invest in both pieces of equipment as they are a couple of the best exercises to work the posterior chain.

Zeb,

I agree the RH and GHR are both complimentary and if I had the dough, I would purchase both. I feel the GHR hits my hammies more and that the reverse hyper hits my low back and erectors more. I really don’t like machines, but find these two are great for the posterior chain.

They have three different Reverse Hyper’s on the Elite Web site. What is the main difference in these machines? The price range is pretty wide as you can see.

I suggest that you get the roller reverse hyper. Your deadlift will thank you

Buy the best, Zeb.

OK before I shell out for the elite rev hyper (ya I know elite makes the best stuff) it is really worth the extra money over the NY barbell version? I think this may be the NY barbell version:

I bought a bench from NY barbell maybe 10 years ago. That is the first and last piece that I ever bought from them. They are not even close in quality to what Tate has at Elite!

To Berner: the link you post doesn’t look like the Reverse Hyper, it’s normal a back extension chair.

To Zeb: the Rev. Hyp. is a great piece of equipment. I found a gym that has one several weeks ago. I’ve only used it for a short time, but my low back feels very good. I don’t know which version to recommend because I only have experience with the standard version (strap around the ankles). Good luck!

Hey ZEB. I have the standard which we have had for a few years.

We also have a GHR, and they are both very effective, but obviously very different units. Having both is the ticket. Hell, we even superset them sometimes.

At this point, I would probably purchase the roller version.

Thanks I kinda thought that but couldn’t figure out what to type into their search engine (back extension) to get their version:

http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/82651.html

So we’re talking

$300 for the NY barbell version
$1000 for a standard elite and
$1900 for the roller pendulum–ouch!

OK so if I get the elite, why is the roller worth an extra $900?

Ok, I may be able to help here with my 2 cents. I bought first the elite pro strap model, and then bought the elite pro roller model. For me, I could never get the “hang” of the strap model. I was swinging too much, and just didn’t “feel” it very well. When my pro roller model arrived, I could tell on the first set how effective the machine was at hitting the low back. I’ve been using it for about a year now, and it has been a fantastic exercise.

I’d say the biggest difference between the pro roller model vs. the pro strap model is that the roller model helps idiots like me isolate the areas you want to work with the exercise, it sort of “locks you in” to the right training position to get the most out of the exercise.

Knowing what I know now about both models, I would have bought the pro roller model from the start.

I also have an elite glut ham raise. Between the glut ham and the rev. hyper, you really have two of the most effective post. chain pieces of equipment that exist.

And, BTW, regarding whether to buy from elite FTS or from NY barbell, the NY barbell model is friggin’ tinker toy compared to the elite. Save and spend your money on the elite, it truly is the best equipment around.

A friend of mine bought the R.H. pro and the glut ham raise a few months ago and They Kicks Ass. I go to his house to lift prety often and use these machines every time I get a chance. My numbers on squat and dead are going up, but not like his. If there was one peice I could put in my basement, it would be this. In fact, if things go well this year, I will have one.

Thank’s for your two cents! You have just made up my mind for me.

Seems like I am late to the party, but here is my 2 cents.

I bought the Elite Deluxe GHR and the Pendulum Reverse hyper and all I can say is that they are the two best pieces of equipment you can own for your posterior chain.

The Pendulum model will keep you from cheating, it is worth the addtional money. do a search for one of my old threads ‘buying a reverse hyper’ for a detailed description of this model versus the strap model.

My deadlift has increased by 225 pounds since I bought these, that kinda says it all.

WOW! That is an impressive increase. Thanks for the comment.

Jim said the difference between the standard and the pro is the amount of weight you can load on, and the standard is much smaller.

The difference between the regular pro and the pro roller is just that, the roller.

He recommended to me the regular pro, should be here in 2 more weeks.

I own the roller and have used the strap reverse hyper before and I must say that I prefer the strap over the roller. With the strap you can do them with a short or long strap and change the way it hits your posterior chain. Either one is great though.

It’s my understanding that the reverse hyper is only sold with a roller. Straps are still available for those with an older model.

You might want to call Louie himself and findout what’s up with his newest revision. He’s working on a leverage version of the reverse hyper. That might be pretty sweet.

That is only on the standard and roller pro. The regular pro still comes with a strap.

I just bought one.
