I have been checking these out at elitefts and would love to have one. But YIKES man, look at the cost.
Does anyone have a reverse hyper for home use or is this a piece of equipment strictly limited to the commercial gym?

They sell a standard version that is for home use and I have seen some people who make them into their power rack. I tried a home made one and it just wasnt the same. Luckily Louie has the patent on that baby so companies like NY Barbell cant make a cheap useless version that doesnt work.
But I feel ya, its not cheap, I found that there is power in numbers. I was lucky enough to find other guys that are as dedicated as I am and we split the costs on equipment.
Hey Barbender,
Does NYBB really suck as a company? I couldn’t afford an Elite power rack for my 1st, so I opted out for the NYBB power rack. It’s got decent dimentions and seems to work alright, but that’s all of their equipment that I own (with the exception of a straigth bar, cambered bar, ez-curl bar, and 300 lb. weight set).

Man, everyone has their opinion and mine is just one of them. Every piece of their equipment that I have used is not up to par with what I am looking for. Their GHR is horrible. The way they set up chains is a joke. If you like it and it works that is fine, but for me I would rather save up a couple more hundred dollars and get quality.
Just my opinion
I have owned both the pro strap model, and now currently have the pro pendelum model. It’s a great piece in my home gym. Seriously, Elite Fitness equipment is better than commercial quality. You can see a picture of my home gym at the bottom of the picture thread titled Jackass, he posted it.
I would really recommend that you bite the bullet, save your money, and purchase the rev. hyper from either Elite or Louie directly. The homemade stuff is a joke compared to the real thing. It will last forever and beyond.
I agree.
Bite the bullet, and get it right the first time.

I looked at the pics of both the pro and the pendulum models. I see the pendulum has a couple of rollers on it, but I can’t see any other differences.
Since you have owned both could you differentiate the two models. Why is the pendulum model better?
The pendulum model is better because you cant really cheat with it. It pulls you legs straight and and you have to keep your toes up. With the pro model that has the strap, I notice that people will cheat by bending at the knees to heave the weight up. The Roller Pendulum is a reality check for some poeple. Plus the roller is a lot easier to get into and you dont have to worry about the strap. But with the Pro model you can use the strap to adjust how far your feet are from the weight which will concentrate on different muscles.

Barbender,
I’ve been thinking about buying a reverse hyper but like Atreides, money is an issue for me. I was just wondering how do people make them into their power rack?
Thanks.
Man, you will probably have to ask someone who has done it, I never have.
I just know that they build a pad that goes across the pins in the rack and then make the rest. I have only used one, never built it. Hopefully someone else know more about that than I do.
Would glute ham raises be a somewhat good substitution for not having a reverse hyper?

The Glute Ham Raise that elitefts sells kicks ass…I love that thing…in my opinion it’s a better piece of equipment than the reverse hyper (I’m sure that you’ll find others that will disagree) and costs less.
Plus the GHR is more versital…you can do situps and back raises on it too. Don’t waste your money on a cheap rip-off model though…I’ve tried several and the elitefts model GHR is by far the best.

I used a GHR made by an imitator today at the GYM. The foot plate wasn’t even as big as my shoe. There was nothing there to drive my toes into. It was really hard to hit the hamstrings on cheap equipment. The Elite GHR has a plate that is 20"x18".
I’m ready for phase 2 of my home gym. The Reverse Hyper and the GHR from Elite are on the way. Christmas is coming early this year.
Christmas came early this year on Monday. The Pendulum Reverse Hyper and the Deluxe GHR are here.
I had to cut out a door to put them in my basement, but dammit, they had to fit!
I’ll post some pics tomorrow.

Sweet…
My RH and GHR should be arriving in a couple of weeks.
So they couldn’t fit through a standard doorway?
What was the cost on the glute/ham raise? Looks like a nice piece!

They will fit thru a standard doorway- a 36 inch doorway. Actually the GHR was fine. The RH was the tough one.
I checked the door through my garage and the front door, all fine. The stairwell to the basement is 36 -fine. But the door to my basement stairwell is 30 and 1/2. This would have been fine too if I had any wiggle room going down the staircase. Unfortunately, I didn’t.
Actually, it wasn’t as bad as it seems. Start to finish, it only took two hours. You can’t even tell we took the door off the hinges.
You probably won’t have any problems unless you are setting up in your basement like I did. Building codes vary, state to state. You may already have 36 inch interior doors.
