Question on Strength Gain Workout

im limited to machines because of broken thumb…what is best for my strength training, i want to get more muscular endurance and power. do i do alot of reps low weights or high weight low reps…big rest periods or little? any help is much appreciated.

How bad is your thumb broken?

If you can use machines, you can use free weights, suck it up

If you are askin about rep schemes, you obviously have no idea what you are doing.

your goals are too airy, do you want to get stronger for your personal satisfaction? do you want to compete in powerlifting or strongman? Are you trying to build athletic performance?

Once you figure out your goal, use the little search function in the upper right corner. There is a wealth of info on here for your consumption. dont expect us to just design a program for you when there are probably 100 different templates on this site for you to adapt.

doctor said no free weights and only certain machines, im doing it for athletic performance. im 14 so im relatively new to all this…i’ve got nutrition down, im a little confused on lifting. hence my question, heavy weight with a few reps and little rest period or light weight alot of reps etc whats the best method

what sport?

wrestling

wrestling is a gray area for me. Never was really into it, I’m more of a football/track guy. The whole weight issue is what I’m iffy on. However search for WS4SB. It is a great template to build size and strength.

I you want to maintain your weight, it may be tough. Generally for strength, low reps, heavy weight is what you need to focus on. Bench Squat Deads Cleans should be the core, with obvious accessory work involved.

This will all be really hard via machines. I will not tell you to disobey your doctor, but I do not generally trust regular doctors as they do not have strength training or athletic backgrounds. Based on his stipulations, find a logical way to break up your split in terms of how many days you want to lift. Dont train the same muscle group 2 days in a row.

Include as much variety as you can. As far as ‘heavy’ work on machines, I don’t know what to tell you. All machines are made different, with different ranges of motion and different leverages. You will have to make due with what you can. Start lighter and build your way up and buy time until that thumb is healed.
