5 days ago I sprained my thumb pretty bad. (hurts to turn a door nob). I cant lift heavy or wrap my thumb around dumbells of any kind. The past 4 days or so I have been working with the machine weights my gym has that dont require the use of my thumb. I also have been doing abs and cardio. This really sucks because all i want to do is get back to lifting normal. Anyone know anything about sprains such as mine? I feel pain deeper down in the thumb.
Any ideas of what else I can be doing until this thing heals up?
I’m not understanding how a 5 year old sprain is giving you this much trouble. Not giving you a hard time, but that seems odd. Sprains fully heal in a few weeks unless you embark on a quest to stop that from happening.
Just keep doing things that don’t require use of your thumb, not much you can do about it. Depending on how severe it is you may have damaged something and you should probably have a doc look at it.
I usually use a thumbless grip on most of my lifts. I imagine you could do the same, especially on pressing movements (and use a straps for extra support on pulling movements). I’ve trained around much worse injuries than a thumb sprain.
