Olympic Lifting Definitions

There has been a lot of talk about oly lifting in the forum as of late and a lot of questions about terminology. I figured that I’d get this thing started and then let the real experts fill in anything I miss or critique any of my defintions. I’m not an expert in oly lifting by any means. 1)Clean (Full clean, squat clean)-bar starts on ground and is pulled from ground to the rack position on front delts while simultaneously dropping into a full front squat, exercise is complete when legs lock out…2)Power Clean - bar starts on ground and is pulled from ground to the rack poition while lifter drops into 1/4 squat position and then stands up…3)Snatch (Full snatch, squat snatch)- bar starts on ground, lifter assumes wide grip and pull bar from floor all the way above the head while simultaneously dropping into a full overhead squat and then stands to finish the lift…4)Power Snatch - same as snatch except lifter only drops into a 1/4 overhead squat…5)Hang (clean, power clean, snatch, power snatch) - bar starts at knee, below knee, or over knee and then the rest of the lifts are performed as described above…6)Jerk (Split Jerk)- bar starts at the rack position on the front delts, lifter simultaneously pushes up on the bar (bar moves upwards very little) and drops under bar into a split squat position, then stands up into an overhead lockout position…7)Push Press - bar starts at rack position, lifter drops down into a 1/4 squat and drives the bar up with the legs while the arms simultaneously lock out…8)Press - bar starts at rack position and is pressed to overhead lockout while lower body remains rigid…Of course there are other variations, but this is at least a decent start. Feel free to clarify further or add other definitions or ask questions about any other variations. Maybe we can clear up the oly lifting confusion for a while.
