New PR's Part 2

I’m not going to say I’m completely walking away from Strongman but, Sam has me fully dedicated and obsessing over powerlifting right now. I absolutely love watching that total climb in addicted to it. Also I love strongman but, my body feels 100x better not doing it. It is insane how hard the events honestly beat you down and you just don’t realize it until you stop. [/quote]

I know what you mean. I’ve played with the limited extent my gym’s got for strongman stuff (log, fat bar, prowler, some good farmers bars), and I’ve got a hint of how brutal it can be. 230lbs/hand farmers walks murder me, even strapped.

Still something I’m very interested in trying, though, even if I’m a midget for the sport lol. How’d you get into it?

I just saw it on tv and was like I wanna go it. Google it and found a team really close by and trained nothing but the events. Lol I literally never Squat or anything I just did the events. Its why I could load a 300+ stone but could barely Squat 270 when I first came into the gym. I did a 700+ with less than 350 squat, and I could log and Axle Clean and press more than I could bench for the longest. I was referred to as the weakest strongest strongman a few times haha.

That’s why I decided to really focus on just getting stronger on gym lifts and then come back and I would actually be pretty competitive but, that plan has kinda back fired as I have lost interest in strongman and am now pursuing Powerlifting.

Also I’m only 5’7" and feel I have a much better chance of being a top tier Powerlifter than I do a top tier Strongman just because of my size and I don’t want to compete as a light weight.

Did a mock meet today, set PRs on squat and bench, and got my first total
Probably some of the lifts wouldn’t have counted in a few feds (head comes off bench, sketchy pauses, no commands, and a squat with questionable depth which I’m not gonna count), but really cool experience overall.

Squat
Attempts
150kg x 1 - nailed it
160kg x 1 - lost balance slightly in the hole but saved it
170kg x 1 - 5kg PR and much easier than expected

BONUS ATTEMPT
180kg x 1 - not sure about depth so probably won’t count this one, just got a bit unnerved by how heavy it felt when I unracked it. Felt solid in the hole, I know I can sink this no problem.

Bench
Attempts - all done with a short pause.
97.5kg x 1
105kg x 1 - 2.5kg PR

110kg x 1 - 7.5kg PR - might’ve been red lighted on the pause here, but screw it, I’m claiming this.

Deads
Attempts
177.5kg x 1 - goal of a 1000lb total passed here
187.5kg x 1

200kg x F - I blame squats. Barely broke the floor.

Total - 467.5kg/1028.5lbs - officially qualify for DYEL status

Good day overall, bit bummed that I didn’t set a PR on deadlifts, but 200kg was the goal for the year, and I wasn’t gonna drop to 195 just for the sake of a bigger total in a mock meet.

360 deadlift for a 30 lb pr

I hear ya!

I think I’ve made some pretty solid progress in powerlifting and have got decent potential for it (5’8", long arms, shortish legs, pretty classic mesomorph-type build - I’m one of those guys that seems to blow up just touching a weight), but there’s just something strangely enticing about strongman. Maybe I’m just a masochist, but I love the whole enduring agony bit, being able to train in ways most miserable. It’s like my love-hate relationship with the prowler.

PRs of the day:

Chins: BW x 15 (last rep was pretty horribly kipped though, not sure it’s worthy of counting)
First time front squatting in about 6mo. 110kg x 5. Not bad.
Leg press: Worked up to 8 plates a side for 5 (yeah I suck at this lol), then drop-setted and did 6 plates for 10.
So close to a deadlift PR: Got 227kg (500lbs) to an inch off of lockout. Straps started sliding off, and I knew I wouldn’t make it. I was struggling quite a bit at this point anyway, so it was debatable. Could’ve made it if I was still peaked, had some ammonia, or resorted to hitching. Grrrr… I will make this weight my bitch before the year is out!

On the plus side, a cute girl complimented my valiant attempt thought

Bench 260 for 5 singles

Did you get her number? Remember AngryChicken’s advice to Jake? Lol.

As for me, and this doesn’t really count as a PR because it’s the first time I did it, but I did a ~2.5 mile walk carrying 25lbs in a backpack, in heavy boots, in the snow, uphill both ways.

I’m trying to condition myself for a snowshoe outing in January. My stamina even just for walking sucks right now, so I figured I should actually fix that. About another month and I’ll be back to normal training again though.

Speaking of hot girls…was talking to a girl at the gym, conversation slowly gets to “my boyfriend is one of the starting defensive ends for Auburn”…waved the white flag, put my ear phones in and finished lifting lol

I have a hot girl PR too. She asked me for help with her squat and invited me to touch her thighs to see how hard they were. Great opportunity to shamelessly ogle her arse, too. She said she was from Georgia (European version) and usually lives in Cannes where she models. 5/3/1 works!

Got a bench rep PR of 11 x 92.5kg, 2 more than last time.

Lol, you win.

295X3 3 second pause high bar squat yet my quads look like shit, and suck getting conventional deadlifts off the floor with my troy bar
265X7 deficit deadlift
70X12 edit: ONE ARM DB swing

Just throwing those in. Also it is the same 16 year old kid posting this. And he might get a nice box squat from elitefts under the christmas tree.

Weight PR: Coming in at a swole-ish 174 I don’t want to gain much more weight until I go into a meet this spring unless the meet I have my eyes on doesn’t pop in the spring. Then I get swole and break past the 181 weight class.

340x7 deadlift

When you’re at the bottom there’s only one way to go lol

Power cleaned 90kg.

Tempting to do these a lot over xmas break, just to see what happens.

“How about try 1000mg of learning how to eat and train.”
Reed…you’re brilliant.

Strict pressed 165 today. This has gone up like crazy the past month and a half.
yet my bench is only 205 ish… failed a 215 bench yesterday and i was sore as hech today
So i wasn’t even gonna lift but i get a 25 pound pr :0

Lol, I just found that thread. Well put.

Slight Incline Bench from Pins
Ramped to 165, PR, but I’m not sure if by 5 or 10lbs.

Partial Wide-Grip Upright Rows
115 for 10 sets of 8 reps – rep and weight PR

5x5 dips going to ‘parallel’ with 100lbs on the belt. 4-5min rests in between though.
