My First 5

I’ve had bench press struggles my entire life lifting.

I recently came across the idea of 3 week mesocycles from 4 and with a tweak here and a tweak there and a lot of focus on tips from Wendler and the gang at Elite I finally pressed the sucker.

I overhead pressed 405 when my best flat was 405 - so figure. I suck at bench pressing.

But just in hopes of impressing some newbies -

Really bloody strong!!

So when’s 500 going down??

that looked easy, should have slapped some 2.5’s on there and did 500!

nice lifting. i wish i had your `bench press struggles’

Good lifting man. That looked real good. In fact- I’d bet you had a good 20 lbs to spare. 500 raw is a strong damn bench anywhere you go.

Amir,

Great lift! Would you mind outlining a 3 week mesocycle and discussing a few of the tweaks you made?

Thanks!

yes. Give us some insight. Quit hoggin all the knowledge. haha

Nice work bro looked solid and easy keep it up

9 weeks - I’m working with 3 meso-cycles per training cycle.
Each lasting 3 weeks each. Then wk 10 is completely off. Sit on my ass for 7 days basically. It heals me up and gets me motivated.

I think I’ll try to post my training plan - people seemed to like my idea of cycling power squats and traditional deads with full squats and sumo deads which by the way works very well.

Maybe I should write articles and make them really confusing - you know, to make ya’ all feel mighty dumb.

The thing is that I keep enough “open space” in my plan to make changes when necessary - my pet peeve is that anyone should be able to give a maximal performance of strength, speed or what not within 4 weeks of notification - always staying just under or over 90% of their best.

That’s why I truly believe that MOST of the Russian research is non-sense in this day and age.

I’ve JUST been to Russia and have made multiple trips to China and “they” study the U.S programs just as tediously as our coaches WORSHIP theirs.

It’s just so damn funny…

I’m going for 525 next time - that felt a little too easy to be honest.

Now if I could just get my preacher curls up and grow some hair…

Very nice. I’m envious.

Yes I would like to hear it. That sound like it could work.

Great lift. that went up super fast.

btw…your reaction after completely the lift was hilarious

Nice job again

You’re thick as hell and made a 495 lb bench look like a warmout (aside from the sound effects). Nice work.

I’m going to echo KombatAthlete, you look monster thick all over.

You slammed that bench too, mighty strong performance. You should be proud.

I wish I sucked that bad at the bench.

Good job Amir! Your dedication and intelligently applied efforts show. Studgorilla

yeah, your a terrifying person. Delicious

VERY impressive lift.

That a chick in the back is doing facepulls and overhead presses is fairly impressive as well.

Congratulations on the bench.

Have you got a video of the overhead press? Some great numbers…

Actually didn’t own a video camera back then. But I did press 365 overhead for a slow single right after that bench. I’ll try to put that up. And would anyone like to see a fat bastard do 12 chins?

Just kidding. I did 10.
