540 lb Bench Press (PR) Video

Feeling strong!

This weeks Bench Press workout went really well and I hit a

540 lb Reverse Band Bench Press PR!
bodyweight was 214 lbs.
…this was a BIG step towards 550 and ultimately towards 600!
I probably wont take another max until late March or early April unless I just feel awesome!
I hope you enjoy the video and have a great day!

Praise Adonai!

The video is 425, 445, then Reverse Bands of 515 and 540!

Great job, you handle those weights with a lot of confidence.

Is it just me or those lifts were not raw like the video says?

Good job on the lift regardless!

The first two looked raw completely, but the second two had reverse bands attached, which mimics the bench shirt. He wasn’t wearing a shirt though, so technically its raw…i think lol

Nice job man!!

Good stuff … you’re moving along quite nicely.

I’m curious, how long do you rest between your sets?

Thanks tom63

I appreciate the positive response.
I have been training for over 20 years and realize confidence really helps make good lifts!

Have a great day!

So true, I know you’re going to get the lift just by how you approach it.

Looks like you’ve got some better music than before. From Cocomo to Survivor. Haha.

Great job on the lift.

Yes it was a raw lift.
I do wear wrist wraps, but no bench shirt.
It is the lack of powerlifting supportive gear that makes it raw.

Have a great day!

So if you added 10 sets of bands instead of 1 would it still be raw? For that matter, why not just use a fork lift to assist. If you’re not wearing a shirt then it’s still raw.

I don’t want to take anything away from your lift because it is very impressive and much more then I can do, but it’s not raw with bands.

For most raw power lifting meets that I know of you can use a belt, knee sleeves (not wraps), and wrist straps.

indeed it is raw with bands. it’s called raw benching with bands, unlike the cheater mvlahovic, BPGorilla lifts what he says he lifts.

Excellent lift!

I appreciate the definition and comment.
I believe you nailed it perfectly!
Have a great day!

That is some amazing weight.

I appreciate the response.
I usually rest between 5-8 minutes between heavy lift5s.
On warmups and lighter sets I usually on rest a minute or two. The heavier the weight the more recuperation time my body needs.

Thanks again tom63

I appreciate your confidence in me, but I have tried many benches that just went flat!
I have felt confident going in and splat!
Over the I have years gotten better at listening to my body and I don’t miss anywhere near the amount I used to, but I am still a work in progress.

Have a great day!

I enjoy Survivor and Kokomo.
The Kokomo music was bringing back lifting memories from October 2007 when I competed in ARUBA on Team USA at the IPF/NAPF North Americna Bench Press Championship.
It was a great experience and if you would like to see it, here is the link to the video from the meet.

yes it would still be raw, but the point of Reverse Band bench pressing is to prepare a lifter for a competition where a bench press shirt is used. That is why I train reverse bands.
If you will notice the first two lifts on the video are both raw and do not use bands. I train raw and use bands to prepare for competitions.

I hope this helps!

Have a great day!

One of the best lifting videos I’ve seen. You look like you’re ready to rip a 45lb plate in half with your hands right before each attempt.

One question, what happens if you start the movement Brooks Kubik dinosaur style, from the bottom, with the bar resting on the pins?
