Feeling that twinge behind my knee on the bilateral deads now, and really just bending over in general. I’ve got to get that sorted out. Did bench so Kristoph doesn’t think he’s going senile. I think I have paralysis by analysis with these…am i supposed to arch? incline? decline? weight? I clearly need to do more. Couldn’t step the weight up for my 3rd set because I was pretty sure i’d drop it on my face if I tried 5 with 50# so I’ll have to figure something out. Maybe I should have just done less reps? Meh.
Gotsta go study…WHEN i get my A, I’m getting myself a manicure.

*Back in the vicious cycle of insomnia again. Blech.
*Twinge in my calf has turned into a burning sensation down the back of my leg, bad enough to keep me up last night. I’ve been working on flossing the nerve, so I’m hoping that this burning just means that I’ve loosened it up and it’s free to glide again (?).
*If you a coffee person–this morning I discovered you can get an 8 oz latte (short) with two shots, for only $2 ($2!). It’s a bargain, plus you don’t get all that milk.
*Video: Wanted to check form on the squats for my max, because i’ve been all twitchy tina that I’m not going deep enough or that i’m leaning too far forward. First video I think I’m maybe a bit shy of depth, and I get a little forward lean standing up. Upper body is wobbly as hell, need to start doing more core stability stuff.
About the vacuum peeps have you thought about a strongly worded by anonymous letter? Invoke the power of ‘this is a legal liability’ it might help, and can’t hurt.
Lula I love all the recent video posts. First, you have (to me) an ideal shape. Second, your squats are the shit. Third, I’m in a similar relationship with insomnia–it’s a love hate thing. Fourth, hope your calf feels better soon. Burning sounds good. I had some burning sensations in my hamstring before it started to feel better…

like Nadia, I can’t see the vids… but, if Kristoph is right about the split stance, I would highly discourage it. remember my knee issues? yeah, part of the reason I have them, besides my shitty form back in the day. when you get under a big squat, you want the power to come from your hips when unracking, and can only achieve that with both feet the same planted firmly on the ground. just my personal 2 cents.
Patch: For the moment, I’m letting it go. I had a teacher in middle school who was adamant about signing your name if you write a letter…and for whatever reason that ideal stuck with me. If I say something, I want them to know it’s from me, but for the moment, it’s just not a battle I need/want to fight.
Nadia: This log has gone 0-60 with the videos, huh? videos>type. Plus I’m lifting alone primarily and it’s nice to get feedback on form since lots of this is newer for me. Thanks on the body comment. As my meltdown a few pages ago proves, I have my issues. However I tossed the scale and jumped off the crazy train and am in the forever process of trying to appreciate what my body can do.
Kristoph: Thanks for the pick up, I never even thought about that split stance being bad. As for the music, a new kid is working in the morning and the music selection has improved dramatically!
Koub: Yes, after I’ve spent some time in your log, I notice my vocabulary has significantly greater f-bombs. And, I hereby solemnly swear to only unrack with my hips. Bad knees scare me.
Trained with a real live strong man this morning, woot woot! Not exactly sure what all went down, but there was log/axel/behind the back pressing. It was good times, but yowzer, what a way to feel weak.
The gym was pretty bad-ass too-a total hole in the wall, no glitz but super awesome gym. I’m excited to go back and get r-o-w-d-i-e.
My back/hammy/calf is still burning, and has turned into my nightly 3 am alarm clock, no me gusta. The next few days are going to be all about active recovery and body weight stuff. I also SWEAR I will do pre-hab for shoulders/hips/nerves/boring/boring/boring.

that’s the reason for a log. to express feelings and such. that way you can reflect on it. that’s IMHO on them anyways. how else are you suppose to learn what works and doesn’t?

Decided to suck it up and take on bench today–same as squats, it was the first time i’ve ventured here since college (i’m having my very own very brady reunion.). I got a spot for the 125 because I wasn’t sure how it’d go (spotter was awesome, btw. Let me struggle it up, and he’s not bad to look at either), and he mentioned that my hands might be a bit close. Not sure about that…they were right on the edge of the first set of knurls (i think that’s the word for that?). I also didn’t feel it in my chest, it just kind of got stuck.
I’ve been feeling all sorts of beat up lately-my back/leg/calf thing is still around, and until I can sit through an hour of class-I’m taking it easy on the lower body. Who would have thought that this would depress me, I used to despise training lower body. Shoulders were still sore from Friday…meh…maybe I’m getting my period, who knows (i haven’t had it in 4 months, it’s bound to show up sometime, right?).
random musings:
*Twanging still as bad as ever, in spite of the rolling/stretching i’ve been doing. I’m realllllly tempted to pull tomorrow but less foolish lula is thinking maybe i should push it off another day.
*Trainer/douchebag extraordinaire kept making smart comments re: my farmers walks. I was thisclose to asking him what he was planning on doing for money after all of his clients were on the DL due to blown discs from the shitty squat form he was having them do. One day that inner judgmental bitch inside me is going to come out.
*started with the agile 8, I like this
*starting carb cycling today, and i don’t even miss my morning oatmeal (there i said it, so that makes it true, right?)
*my strongman friend informed me of a PL meet in January, and then there is another in May. Plan is to go to the meet in January to get a feel for how it works, then poss compete in May. I think that will get me some training time under my belt, we’ll see
*My phone read 40 degrees on my walk to the gym. That’s quite enough for now Mother Nature. Don’t be a bitch.
