My Baby Got Sauce

Going low carb (especially if a lot of whey shakes are involved) makes me piss like a racehorse. And I’ve always got up to pee in the night. Always. Don’t worry about it.

Regarding the marathon - good luck with that. I’ve run a half and I was suffering badly towards the end. (It was very warm, mind you). I actually put fat on while training for it because of the carbs I was eating to get me through my two hour training runs. Oh and I still strength trained a whole load. No reason you can’t do both.

Cal-Thanks re: the excessive peeing advice. Apparently I am an alarmist regarding my body. With the marathon, I’m not actually planning on training, it’s next weekend. I think it will be a game time decision. I had the same weight gain during training thing that you did, they don’t seem to advertise that in the running world.

Training this week has just been on. I love weeks like this.

A1) Kettlebell swings
A2) Burpees
15.14.13…

B1) DL 95x15x4 (felt my ass working on this, i like)
B2)Burpee-explosive push up-pull up x 10 (love<hate these)

C1) SLDL barx10 (I get a twangy feeling in my calf doing these—I think it may be the fib nerve twanging over the fibular head…I’m not sure. It doesn’t hurt per se, but it’s definitely an uncomfortable feeling. Need to work on this, because single legs with the bar kind of rcok)
C2) Curl 20x8
C3) something else? >gym brain<

D1) Clean-front squat-press

Just made a protein shake and added a scoop of s.f.f.f. pudding. Best, shake, ever. If you haven’t, try this-it will change your life. I’m a new woman.

And finally, to the girl working this morning—vacuuming the gym floor does not take precedence over people actually using the space. I literally had to step out of the way during my warm up sets because she barged into my area. AND THEN, doing my single leg DLs, she walked behind me and knocked my leg. Cereally girl.

re: vacuum cleaner girl

I know right!? I look at her like breakfast when she gets too close so she hasn’t hit me (yet), but cereally indeed! My blood pressure’s up just thinking about it.

Am I reading this right? Did you do burpees (or regular 'ole squat thrusts for you military minded people), then later do more burpees where you jumped up and did a pullup? That’s a lot of moving around and stuff. grin

Glad your training is ‘on’, those do make for fun weeks. To marathon or not to marathon, hrm…

lula, on the nips thing – I deal with this by wearing a sports bra with a beefy cup insert. This is the one I wear (search lululemon power y bra if the link doesn’t work), but all of lululemon’s bras come with cup inserts that will totally solve your issue:

http://shop.lululemon.com/shop/productTemplate-B.jsp?productId=Flow-Y-Bra-IV-31974&categoryId=women-sports-bras&cc=6461&skuId=3416368&catId=women-sports-bras

My VS sports bras are good for other things (I’m an A cup) but they don’t provide total nip coverage.

Carmel Apple sounds wonderful. With nuts?

Vacuum girl sounds like an idiot.

try dropping a heavy dumbbell on her foot next time… “oups sorry, you distracted me…”

Just remind her of health and safety. And lawsuits. That’s a whole lot more frightening to gym staff than snarly faces.

kris-yes, that was a high burpee day-I don’t know what possessed me. This week has been burpee free thus far, but I’m sure that will change.

kimba-thanks for the bra recommendation. I stopped in last weekend and it’s like I get overtaken by this extreme urge to buy something. I ended up getting a zip up and have been dreaming about the bra all week, so i’ll probably have to go back this upcoming weekend. gah.

patch-the caramel apple was delicious–just caramel and peanuts. it was a fancy shmansy place and you could get chocolate and all sort of candies on it, but I’m pleased by the simple things.

nlmain-i will need to use that technique. i had another vacuum experience i’ll document below.

cal-unfortunately i work out at the university and it’s a student worker. i don’t think she really cares about lawsuits…all she cares about is making sure that NO DUST GOES FUCKING UNTOUCHED!

SO-yesterday’s training (from what I remember…been pretty bad about posting)

65# BB warmup
8x4
DL
Row
Clean-FS-Press

DL
135x8x2
185x3x3

**so maybe I should make the steps in weight more of a progression but I don’t have patience with nickel and diming the weights. I’ll use this as my new 90% for the 5/3/1.

Pull ups

*bunch of sets—at the end of the week I’m going to test how many i’ve got in the tank

Single leg DL
65# 8x4
*twanging not as bad if I don’t go down as far on the left leg, of course i don’t get the ass like i should then. must. keep. stretching.

DB snatches
35#x8x4

Seated row
some for some

Other stuff, sorry for the vagueness-I’m sure there was more but I just can’t recall.

**spin this morning

Vacuum story:

I set up my little area in the corner, minding my own business. No sooner am I doing DB snatches when vacuum dude (a different vacuum offender) meanders over by the racks and starts meticulously vacuuming. The guys in the rack next to me are nice and ask if they need to move, so he can vacuum the NOTHING that’s on the floor. Vacuum douche comes over by me and I literally need to stop MID SET to let him by. I DON"T GET IT, I think they’re doing it just to fuck with me, and it’s working! I just stand there looking annoyed—all of my classes are in this building and the people who hold my little future in their hands seem to have eyes everywhere so I’m not about to make a deal out of it. But seriously, if this happens next time I’m in there I may go batshit.

Exams starting up, so it’s me and the books today. happy wednesday all.

Twanging?? lol

How are you doing the sl dl?

haha yes! that is one of those fancy technical terms I learned in school. there’s my money hard at work.

here’s a vid of the single leg stuff. martin’s the shizz (yes, people still say that)

Yesterday:

10 1:10 hill repeats
10 20s straight sprints

Today

Couldn’t sleep so–
30 minutes 20% incline 2.5 mph

And then:

Plate warm up 25#

Squats (came out of retirement! first time I’ve back squatted since the first round of college, and decided to have fun and see how much I could put on the bar)
barx10
95x8
135x6
185x3x2
225x1x2

I never got why people were afraid of these, but on one of my 225 reps I got stuck half way up and I felt that fear. good fear though, got my legs straight at least.

MP
Barx10
65x8
85x6
100x1x3!!!

Set this as an end of the year goal and got it, hoozah!

Then did some random stuffs-

burpee-explosive push up-pull-up
curls
tri extensions
dips

ended with power clean-squat-press 65x6x4

My camera is on the fritz (for those keeping track, i’ve replaced my car, my bike, my computer, and now my camera. i personally am keeping the economy going) and I really really wanted to have vids of the squats and the cleans. hopefully i can get some kind of replacement next week.

i’ve been going into the weights nilly-willy, which is obviously a recipe for success (eye roll). I like knowing which weights to go in and lift, but I like kind of doing what feels good that day, so I’m going to sit this weekend and try to devise a plan that allows for both.

I get a lot of questions, and pressure from myself, about what my goals are for training. Powerlifting/Oly lifting/Figure, what ta do? Part of me feels like I need something to work towards, it’s all I’ve done my whole life…but I’ve been realizing lately (and probably again) that doing something purely out of enjoyment, because it makes me feel good about myself and about life in general, is ok. I am trying to stop putting pressure on myself and am going to live for pure enjoyment for awhile.

I’m really liking this right now-

And while I’m feeling all sorts of deep and reflective, here’s a quote from Modern Family last week…that little dunphe just hit straight to my core with this one  doesn’t make a lot of sense out of context, but that’s ok.

‘maybe you keep falling because you know you can. maybe the wire needs to be much, much, higher.’

That’s not bad squatting for tiny folk. And I told you you’d get that 100# MP by the end of the year! You just went one better and got it months ahead of schedule.

As for goals vs. enjoyment vs. what to do in the gym: You had a military press goal and got it, so there’s one tick mark. You seem to enjoy going in and lifting generally, another tick mark. You work main lifts (although I don’t recall you benching- am I going senile!?) heavy then do things that strike your fancy. Nothing wrong with that.

If the body you currently have resembles in the slightest your bikini pic I’d say your figure is quite fine. How could it not be with the bike tabatas, sprints, and lifts you do?

On a stern note though, lifting for enjoyment is fine but living for enjoyment is impossible. Everything must be regimented or chaos will take over and erode the order of things! Goodness knows we don’t want that. grin

I’ll see your Nantes and raise you a live version that a friend shared recently. It reeeeeaaallly made me want to be back in Paris, sigh.

Holy shit your a strong!

Amazing squat, but holy shit, 100lb MP? FFFFFUUUUUUU…

awesome numbers there lady. keep up the damn good work. it’s showing you are busting your ass.

I love modern family. And your squat and MP numbers are amazing. But, wait isn’t that marathon this weekend and you’re squatting?! Or maybe the marathon is next weekend? But still–you’re squatting?!

If you’re running–run well, and smart, and have fun!

Kristoph: Your version totally wins, I love that! They’ll be coming to town pretty soon here so I’m excited to check them out live, me thinks it’ll be pretty amazing. And back to paris you say? Yet another interesting piece to my kristoph puzzle, tell me more mon amour. Thanks for the encouragement, I like the tick way of accomplishments, so i’ll work on making more ticks. And finally-I think I could use at least a little more chaos in me life

Koubs-Hiiii! How’s your training going…and more importantly, hows the FF team looking? My teams are horrendous this year…I’m really hoping to turn things around this week or I 'm bout to lose motivation for the rest of season.

Nadia-Marathon is this weekend…right this moment, actually. Here’s the long version of why I decided against it–I decided next time I run a marathon, I’m going run sub 4:00. Last time I ran I missed that by 38 fecking seconds, so I’ve got unfinished business with that bitch. I also decided that the satisfaction comes out of crossing that line because you deserve it, and I don’t. I didn’t see any enjoyment in walking and finishing in 6 hours…the glory in it wouldn’t be mine to own.

Instead, I went on a SLR this morning and it was just me, the sunrise, and my dog. Know in Mary Poppins when Bert does the chalk drawing on the side walk and then they walk through it? That’s what I felt like I was running through this morning, it was gorgeous.

Plus, this way I get to deadlift and sprint tomorrow. I’m happy with that.

Cal and MIM: Thanks!

Jesus on the squats!

and those were strict millies?! I’m fackin impressed.

love the quote. It fits with my vision of people: those who have known “true” struggle are usually the best fighters. They know what’s to lose.

in regards to goals: do what lights your soul. I spent a day with bikini models and I know that is not the Frenchie way. And if your personal life is already filled to the brim don’t add competition of any kind. I spent 5 years giving myself personal mini goals before even competing. If you find yourself with the drive and time go for it, but not out of pressure. Do it cause you want to, competing is hard enough as it is.

training is kicking my ass, but loving it. go read my log… lol. don’t get my started on FF… I have one good team out of 6. one… getting so pissed off at it.
