Mike Tyson As a Bodybuilder...

Impressive physique, but I don’t think any better then Foreman in his prime, Ali, Ken Norton, Lenox Lewis, Evander Holyfield.

Don’t forget Ivan Drago…wait that was a movie. But really, I’ve always found Dolph Lundgren’s physique freaking amazing.

Or what about Nikolai Valuev, I heard he was a bad boxer (maybe that’s wrong), but man was he big.

And also, if you asked the average sports fan who Jay Cutler is, most of them will say quarterback for the Denver Broncos instead of bodybuilder.

Tyson lifted weights. We are the same age. My buddy knew him in his Catskill days. He told me Tyson was going to be the heavyweight champ and I laughed at him because he couldn’t even qualify for the Olympic team.

Incredibly explosive with a great physique yet he was also very awkward and unathletic in many ways.

I respect all men who lift weights.

That being said, prancing onstage vs. getting in the boxing ring… one of those things would be a complete waste of potential.

And it ain’t boxing.

evander holyfield is the boxer who could have been the best bodybuilder

Uh, I guess I just don’t see it. Most heavyweights – minus the Butterbeans and Foremans – have similar physiques.

They’d all have been awesome bodybuilders. Ali/Foreman, Ali alone.

For fuck’s sake, even Tommy Gun.

I wonder if there’s any data out there about his T levels. If he had supplemented can you imagine the trouble he would have gotten into?[/quote]

Roberto Duran openly used steroids…I’ve seen a tape where his trainer blatantly says he gave Duran “Hormones”…Never got him on any trouble…(Then)…

alot of past heavyweights had great physyches(w/e) but the thing i meant to emphasize was that as a young child he had the build of a BIG grown man. about the ali thing ya i rmember something that i think bobby bowden said was what a damn waste of a tight end lmao

Hey Zap do you have any idea what type of weights tyson did back in his younger days? i.e all compound etc. I’ve been looking for that info for years but with no success.

Thanks

im not zap, but from what ive seen online, he did a lot of high rep dips, pushups, chins, which makes it that much more impressive that he was able to get that large with mostly bodyweight exercises.

More a case in genetics then what only high rep bodyweight routines will do.

No idea the weights he lifted. I just know my buddy lifted in the same gym a couple times. He also threw a snowball at Tyson once. Once…

All super athlets could have been great bodybuilders. The point is why would a person with far above average genetics and talent want to be a bodybuilder? There is very little money in it, when you factor in the food and drugs needed to compete. I would much rather see gifted individuals competing in competetive sports I enjoy watching, like football, basketball, baseball ext.

thanks for the replies gentlemen

So, what you are saying is that genetically gifted bodybuilders are inherently “lazy” bodybuilders, because they do not have to really “suffer” that much to get in shape?..(For example, a Gaspari vs. a Mike Christian or Bob Paris), or did I misunderstand you?

Holyfield has a great physique…But just so you know he was also implicated with Balco…remember those 2 or 3 years he took off of boxing because of a heart ailment, after the fight he lost with Michael Moorer? Now I dont know much about roids but one can draw their own conclusions.

not that the shape of his head changed. He was a great one though.

How about Barry Bonds as a boxer?

I definitely know Tyson lifts religiously, based on some documentaries I’ve watched and from a few news stories about him which actually were talking about how it was odd that he lifted in a commercial gym instead of a private one.

Fast-forward it to 1:18 and you will see Mike doing squats.
