Knee Injury Diagnosis?

Ouch!

I’m hoping to get some info as to what might have happened to my leg.

I think I must have done it doing dumbell snatches on Saturday morning, but it didn’t start hurting until Monday morning when I woke up.

The pain is extreme, and is localized to the area where the Vastus Lateralis and Medialis meet my knee cap. The knee itself doesn’t seem to hurt, just the muscle but it’s making the whole area above the knee hurt like a bastard whenever I need to use my leg for anything (walking, standing up, sitting down, etc) and I’ve got a big limp when I do walk.

The fact that it didn’t hurt for a day and half is pretty weird, but I don’t really have any experience with injuries.

Any thoughts? Should I stay off it? I was thinking about trying to train through it and do squats today, but that is probably a dumb idea. If the pain persists like this for two more days I’ll go get it checked out.

thanks in advance

being a bit of a smartass, but from that description you’ve got DOMS, delayed on-set muscle soreness… what is the pain like?? does the muscle tissue hurt to the touch? any bruising?

This is definitely not DOMS…the pain is right where the muscle connects to the knee and yes it’s very sensitive to the touch but also hurts when I try to use or move my leg. The girl next to me at work thought I was having a heart attack when I winced loudly in pain trying to just lift my foot off the floor.

I did look for bruising this morning but didn’t see any…it is a bit swollen though

bushidobadboy is right. Ice it for 48 hours after the injury. Also, TAKE IBUPROFEN. The fact that the knee hurt more the next day leads me to believe that inflammation is causing the pain. Icing it and the ibuprofen will help reduce the inflammation. Once that goes down, you’ll get a better idea of what exactly hurts and what you injured. Hopefully you just strained a tendon or have a very minor muscle tear.

But once the swelling is gone, if there is still pain, get it checked out.

I appreciate the feedback…I’ve been icing at work today and took advil and it does feel a little better.

I did make an appt with my orthopedic physician on Friday just to be safe.
