Knee Pain

hey everyone,

first time poster, lurked a long time but finally decided to register

anyway i hurt my knee about 6 weeks ago doing 1 legged squats (wanted to give em a try). Bad decision cause the next day my knee hurt so bad i couldn’t walk normally for 4 weeks and didn’t squat or deadlift for 5 weeks.

It’s getting better but still randonmly it starts to hurt, ussually it gets better if i ignore the pain and do a few bodyweight squats or spray it with cold water in the shower

It’s really confusing me whetever it’s healed up or not cause i have days where i can easily squat again but then i have a day where it hurts like fuck in the morning and stops hurting after a few hours.

I wanna get rid of the pain, any recomandations on how to speed up recovery? so far i just take contrast showers, do alot of stretchin, some bodyweight squats randomly through the day and managed to slowly start squating with weight again.

took me 3 sessions with a ton of warming up till i felt confident enouth to squat regular weights again, tought the problem was solved but like i said knees started to hurt again.

tried a few things, banded it lightly with a knee wrap for like half an hour and then put it off (some guys claimed this would help cause of temporary increased blood flow), didn’t really help. Like i said earlier i’m stretching and doing contrast showers

Anything i could add to rehab?

I don’t know how the hell you did that much damage doing 1-leg squats. How did you do them? Like, split squat style, or pistol squats? (google these if you don’t know the difference). Did you add a load or was it just bodyweight?

Bottom line though, if there are days that it hurts, it’s not healed. What part of the knee hurts? rehab varies for different types of knee injuries.

i was trying out calistetics and decided to go all out of one legged squats (pistol squats, holding my foot with one hand, going so deep my hips are like 2 inches from the ground). i’ve squated alot and i tought my knees could take it

it hurts kinda “across” my knee cap, still not too sure if i should go to a doctor …

in the morning ussually it hurts but after a few hours the pain is completely gone

I’ve done zillions of pistol squats and never experienced anything like this.

Yes, go to the doctor. You probably need to get a referral to a specialist. It doesn’t sound like your injury situation is improving, and you’ve already waited a long time, so it’s probably not going to get any better doing what you’re doing. What would be the down-side of going to the doctor? If it’s money, you have to weigh living with chronic pain versus spending the cash and getting fixed up. Your call of course, but I know I wouldn’t want to live with knee pain every morning.

nah money isn’t the problem, got ensurance…

the only reason i didn’t go to a doctor yet is cause i’m expecting him to prescribe me pain killers (he did so a previous time). Knee pain ain’t worth it so i guess i’m go have to make an appointment.

that’s why I suggested going to a specialist. A GP isn’t going to be able to do much for you aside from writing a prescription, but he can point you in the direction of a specialist. Or you can do your own research and find someone on your own.

pain across your knee (on the joint line) is indicative of a meniscus tear; the poor recovery makes me even more suspicious of that.

See a sport med doc or orthopaedic surgeon.

It took 4 weeks just to walk probably and the very next week you were squatting/deadlifting?

Nope,

first 2 weeks i favored my knee, the other 2 it bothered me. On the 5th week i squated the bar, 2 days later i squated 60 pounds, another day later i squated 135 …

On week 6 the pain was gone after a long warm up and i squated a regularworking weight (1 rep only).
