That doesn’t really make sense. The issue with BTN presses is excessive external rotation and shoulder impingement. To a degree, it looks like these ease some of that with the extremely wide grip, but the same same issues are present in the concentric as the eccentric.
I’m sure these are hard, just like every other new movement that you’re not used to. But keep in mind that this is still an n=1 scenario.
Ok, go as heavy as you can and lower it your back as slowly as you can and dont give with the weight. Thats whats gonna hurt your soulders.
But what would olympic weightlifters know about a snatch grip behind the neck press…
Why would anyone do that? lol
your just a bully :(
x4 what an ass
x5 If I ever see him I will Klokov press and drop him into a pile of biceps. That’ll teach him.

x6 I’ll spot you bro
Again, I think you’re oversimplifying what’s going on. The eccentric is where you are going to more muscle damage and get sore, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Obviously muscle damage is not a bad thing in a bodybuilding context, but olympic lifters tend to avoid eccentrics wherever they can, which in turn reduces soreness and allows them to train more frequently. But from an injury standpoint for Joe Averagelifter, a BTN press is more risky than one to the front whether it’s the concentric or eccentric.
I’ve seen a few olympic lifters doing BTN squat thrusters, but never anything as strict or wide as this.
you guys don’t have to go collar to collar. It depends on what your arm length is and what grip you would normally use on a snatch (if you know that). Klokov just uses the grip he uses for the snatch, and me being 6’2", I have to go collar to collar as well. For some of you guys you can move the hands in a bit.
As a stubby armed 5’6 guy collar to collar isnt even possible… the bar wont even make it to the top of my ears. I use something around the 81cm grip. I think that is sufficient. When you bring it in further, it definitely grates my shoulders. But too far out and the tricpes do nothing and it just hurts. Did 165x4 on these yesterday. I great assistance exercise I think, and it definitely increases flexibility. Makes my bench weaker the next day, but thats a good sign it will have carryover.
For shits and giggles, you people with good narrow stance squat mobility should try doing these from the bottom of a back squat position just with an empty bar. My mid back has never cramped up so tight as when I did them this way…even moving 95 lbs was almost impossible. Great warm-up.
Make sure your elbows are forced down instead of slipping up and backwards in the hole though. That’s key

Gave these a try today. I like them, but I couldn’t quite get the eccentric right. Kept dropping the bar on my neck. I don’t recommend doing that.
Lower them to your traps brah

Yeah that was the intention. Klokov makes it look easy. Then again, Klokov makes push-pressing 200 kilos look easy.
I want to see a video of at least one T-nationer doing these before I even think about trying them. They don’t look too good for a guy with some shoulder mechanic problems.

?
My right shoulder dislocates about every time I sleep on it ( I kinda ask for it) and I have to manually reset it, yet I still do this exercise with no problems.
If you really need visual confirmation there’s Paul and Jaime’s videos.
Still feeling these out, but combined with a nice squeeze at the top they had my shoulders feeling “worked” better than they have been in a while. Going to keep these in the rotation for a while for sure
