Just in case noone noticed, the only ‘bad’ part for your shoulders is the decent. Dont grind it down with your shoulders, give with the weight.
Will do these as my secondary press tomorrow, looking forward to getting pwned with 145.

The beginning of the lift really is the hardest part. The scapula have to be retracted and arms externally rotated to generate any force.
Tried them for the first time yesterday. Felt really unstable at first. I only got up to 135x10. Seated BTN press I can do 225 for reps so my poor shoulder mobility really shows. Definitely a great exercise I plan on working in more often.
Also, I started with my grip as wide as possible, but that made it really difficult and painful for my wrists. I could only do 135x3. I narrowed the grip an was able to get 10 reps with the same weight.

Threw these in on my “free day” saturday sessions. I only messed with 95lbs for sets of 3, but even that was quite heavy.
Going to be incorporating them more and more at the behest of guys like Jamie and Paul (Lift, Run, Bang and Chaos&Pain respectively, who have been leading the charge to make these popular)[/quote]
You have them backwards
Jamie - CnP
Paul - LRB
Looks like an intersting variation. I think Paul uses too wide of a grip for his frame and arm length. I also don’t think they should be done max-effort like that. But who the fuck am I…

You can do a controlled descent down to the back of the head then give in. Letting 200 fall on your traps from overhead is one ticked to the pain train.
Since you mentioned shoulder health one should actively try to push up all the time, don’t push the hands up and to the sides towards the end of the barbell. I did this and my shoulder slipped out and it wasn’t very pleasant for me when the bar came down.

If anyone thought I meant dropping it on to your traps from the top, then are probably going to hurt themselves anyway.
Plus anyone using 90.9kg on these is probably going to know how to lower them.

That doesn’t really make sense. The issue with BTN presses is excessive external rotation and shoulder impingement. To a degree, it looks like these ease some of that with the extremely wide grip, but the same same issues are present in the concentric as the eccentric.
I’m sure these are hard, just like every other new movement that you’re not used to. But keep in mind that this is still an n=1 scenario.
I tried them today with the bar for three sets of a lot of reps. Couldn’t even budge 95. They got kind of uncomfortable towards the end. Maybe I should ease into it with a narrow grip; I went straight to collar to collar. I’ll try again Thursday.

Ok, go as heavy as you can and lower it your back as slowly as you can and dont give with the weight. Thats whats gonna hurt your soulders.
But what would olympic weightlifters know about a snatch grip behind the neck press…
I do these often and really like them. However, I’ve found that sometimes the eccentric portion of the lift bothers my traps as result of lack of flexibility causing me to essentially drop the bar onto my neck. So I have started doing them off pins so that I can take that drawback out of the equation. Just push off the pins then bring it back down to the pins with a slight drop.
