I came across this site from a link from Mens Health UK.
I am 31, 5’11", 230lb and fat. I am looking to lose about
45lb in total and gain some muscle through a combination better diet and weight training. Never really done any weights before. I have read a few articles and think that full body workouts would probably be best for me because I dont have much muscle anywhere and FB workouts would help build some size and strength.(Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). Im trying to end up with a physique like Daniel Craig, nothing to extreme.
The problem I have is that I have patella tendonopathy which causes pain in my knee joint when bearing any extra weight or when it is under to much tension. Can anyone suggest anything to help me out?

Check out the articles on here by Mike Robertson. He has a bunch of great articles that will help your knee issue he also has an injury thread you can read through. “Hips Don’t Lie: Fixing force couples” and “18 Tips for Bulletproof knees” would be a good start article wise.
I would talk to your physicain or better go to a sports ortho and have them look at it.
Thats a great recomendation to check out Mike Robertsons work as well.
I recently half tore my right patella tendon and a few things that have helped me. Well a great diet get your fishoils in, I would consider a joint supplement, as well. Train is might be painful but train and take things SLOW.
That Tendinopathy (jumpers knee) likely came on from lots of use and abuse, you need to let it rebuild and get strong. Nice controlled slow move even just eccentrics. This is a time I would say NOT to be explosive and be patient slow moves you grind out and progress slow.
get a knee wrap or wrist wrpa and just strap it right over that tendon for moves you do on that leg for the first month or so and slowly get back away from using it.
Make sure your using proper form and pushing the knees OUT. its OK on some moves if the go over the toes etc they have to the thing you DONT want to happen is they cave in, Thats puts a hell of a strain on that tendon, keep constant pressure out on them as you squat or do any knee flexion.
Rest it work it then give it time to heal.
make that ever so slow progress and youll be back in no time, 5 month ago I was having pain squatting me and Im now back to a decent 500lb squat just be patient little steps
I have been seeing a physio for about 3 months through my GP but it doesn’t seem to have made a great deal of difference, perhaps I should change physio or they are treating me for the wrong condition.
I would second the advice to look up Mike Robertsons stuff. He has a thread in the Authors Locker Room forum where you can post Q’s and also check out his website: www.robertsontrainingsystems.com
With alot of bodywt and a dodgy knee you need to be careful about your exercise choices, but believe that you can do it, you just need to get the right advice.
