Genetics....Do YOU Suck?

Oh, and the title isn’t “Genetics…do YOURS suck”…it is “Genetics…do YOU suck”.

Most of you with problems gaining suck. Your genetics, however, are just fine.

You clearly made the implication that eating more was what was holding you back. People like you don’t make much progress. You are the type to sit around and bitch and moan about every excuse you can think of…like using a freaking skin condition like rosacea as a hindrance to your physical goals. if it wasn’t that, it would be something else…like using nausea as a reason to not eat more.

To this day I have to time my meals around how my stomach feels. Once again, why the hell do so many of you think it was so easy for the rest of u?[/quote]

You are right, I am a total pussy when it comes to eating big. I am totally holding myself back because I am not eating big and it’s no ones fault but my own. I will only make progress if I up my calories and continue to up my calories. Tell me something I don’t know… like maybe the answer to my original question?

I have much respect for people like you that actually DO and not just talk about what you’d like to do. But if someone had just said “hey dumbass newbie, look into such and such” or maybe posted a link, we wouldn’t be wasting our time talking about what a pussy some stranger is.

Tatsu, you did mention set points and yes I will do more reading, thank you.

You are catching flack because we have discussed this…several times over…for several years.

This is WHY those of you hitting a new body weight and then dieting down immediately will always see less overall progress than those who hold those upper body weights for longer periods of time.

Once your body adjusts to a new weight set point, it may very well not need as many calories to MAINTAIN that new weight as it did to hit it in the first place…but that is after your body has adapted for a LONG period of time and can now hold that weight easily with less calories used as metabolic rate.

I’ve experienced this as well as most lifters with any real size on them.

No one but that one poster is making some specific distinction like “3,000 vs 5,000” calories…and let’s face it, if you are jumping into this thinking you will only have to eat big for a short period of time, find a new hobby, quickly.

I appreciate this straight answer very much, Prof. Thanks.

I keep hearing that it’s best to get to 30 lbs. heavier than what you want to be, stay at that size for a while, then cut and get lean. I would never diet down immediately. I wouldn’t miss my abs because I’ve never had any. But of course, none of this applies to me unless I grow some balls.

Anyone saying “it’s best to get 30lbs heavier than what you want to be” is an idiot. 30lbs of what?

As far as the genetics thing goes and people seeing better results in their 30s is probably because they never ate enough to grow in their 20s. Now their metabolism slows down so they’re see some weight gain.

If your goal is 230lbs on stage in contest shape, you had better be carrying 250-270lbs or more in the off season.

Kevin English competes in the 202 class and weighs 270lbs in the off season.

On stage is a completely different thing. Putting a number to it is still ridiculous though.

Its not a bad number for an average height person looking to acquire extreme muscle mass. Obviously the shorter you are the less you have to gain in excess because some of that excess is water weight; more height allows more room for water to be held. Then you factor in how lean someone can stay while still gaining muscle at a quality rate.

If someone is just looking to be 200lbs and beach lean at 6’ tall then they dont even have to really do anything more than eat clean and do some cardio every now and then and lift a little.

This stuff all has to be considered in context. It should be known by now that when Prof X makes recommendations, unless otherwise stated, it’s for people aim to be much much bigger than the average gym goer (who is already a bit bigger than the average man on the street).

They mean 30 pounds above CONTEST weight, which, considering the extremely low levels of bodyfat required for contest shape, means that even at 30 pounds heavier (and yes, that’s 30 pounds of fat) they’re still going to be leaner and in better shape than 99% of the populace…

Anyway Steely and X are on target - don’t fuck around kids. Get to it, and do the right thing as early as possible.

I fucked around training just to pull ass when I was in my twenties, and was around 185 or so for most of that time, and now at 43, I’ve had to put balls to the wall to make the kind of gains I want. It has not been a lot of fun walking around like a human refrigerator for the past few years, but in the end it will be worth it.

That said, had I not fucked around so much as a kid, I would have been a lot better off.

I will learn from your mistakes, old man.

By God! Who cares if your genetics suck. I doubt any of you are earning any money with your physique, so who cares how good you are at bodybuilding. It is just a hobby. Do you think people on the bowling forum talk endlessly on how their hands get too sweaty which makes it more difficult to throw the ball with a lot of spin? I don’t think so. Just work out and try to enjoy it, results, however big or small, will come. And if you don’t like it, pick another hobby.

I cant tell if some of you are ignorant or just plain retarded…

I’m choosing retarded. Why else would someone who doesn’t understand the concept of “really lean” vs “off season” jump into the conversation…and why else are jackasses assuming none of us will EVER compete or that we shouldn’t even have that as a goal?

Ignorance would be the minor blip of stupidity. These fuckers loudly exclaim how dumb they are from the mountain tops…and if all mountain tops are filled up, there’s always YouTube.

As far as CT’s comments…

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that someone would actually look better in high school then after years of training. Assuming they’re still young and every training variable is in order.

Weird.

But I’m guessing 99% of the time most people fall into the opposite category.

I mean Fuck, honestly people? Shit like "Anyone saying ‘it’s best to get 30lbs heavier than what you want to be’ is an idiot. 30lbs of what? " Yea, 30lbs of Bodyhair. WHat the fuck do you think we are talking about?! You say that as if EVERY OLYMPIA COMPETITOR doesnt drop approx 20-60lbs every year pre competition. As for the hobby comment, this isnt a “Hobby.” Back to your example, I dont join Bowling or video game Boards because i enjoy doing it in my spare time. If this was simply a means to relieve frustration and anger, why would someone be wasting so much time on these boards? WHo gives two shits if you are genetically inclined to build more muscle or differing views and opinions of others if you SIMPLY do it for sport? What type of moron would subject themselves to these threads and the constant barrage of insults spewed by others due to the “Validity” of THEIR VIEWS if you weightlift “just for the fun of it.”

This is the BODYBUILDER SECTION, that in which BODYBUILDING ideas, theories, and methods are depicted, described, and discussed. Get used to it.

Well, bodybuilding is my hobby because I DON’T GET PAID to do it, and there is no obligation for me to do it. So in my definition it’s a hobby. That does not mean that I don’t work out seriously. It does not mean that I casually go to the gym to play with th pretty machines. That does not mean that I don’t eat like a bodybuilder either. I can tell you this though. If I did not enjoy doing it, I wouldn’t do it. And I am certainly not gonna waste my time thinking about my genes, which I have no influence on. I hope this explains things a little bit better, not that I owe you an explanation.

And another thing, what gives you the right to call me a moron. Who on earth do you think you are? Just because you have more posts than me, does that mean that you can call me names?

There’s your answer right there. For the fact that you bothered to post in a thread you care nothing about, on forums that dont really matter, to a guy you had no need to explain jack shit to.

I am interested in this thread, I am just not gonna lose any sleep over my genes. I do visit this board from time to time, probably because I do find bodybuilding interesting. As for answering to a guy a I don’t need to explain to. You are one of the loud mouths here calling people morons, based on what? You know nothing about me, and other than the semantic interpretation of the word “hobby” I highly doubt your views of bodybuilding are any different from mine.

I think Frahn-swah is confusing “hobby” with “lifestyle”.

Building knick-knacks out of clay on the weekend is a “hobby”.

Permanently altering your body, diet, finances (memberships, food, chiro, etc), and schedule every day of every week of every month of every year is a “lifestyle”.
